:) Pawian and yanc. We do not use the word "caravan" in America. We call them "campers" or "trailers". I used caravan in order to indulge Leslie brcause "caravan" is used in the UK. So sorry if there was any confusion. ;D

Actually, sometimes we do used it to mean a number of cars traveling together to a common destination. I sometimes see a National Guard caravan on the highway. And sometimes my relatives caravan to the mountains in the summer.

Hmmm, caravan as a noun and a verb ...

I'm driving a 97 Saturn that gets 32 MPG and is paid for. I'd like a mini-cooper, but I cannot justify such an expense while driving so cheaply!

Hi Janc,

I had intended to add to your post of your Ford Mondeo, those are very respected autos. So, you have had good luck with it? I would think so by the nature of your post.

http://www.ford.co.uk/ie/mondeo/mdo_experience/mdo_360/-/-/5/-

Personally, although, I have lived with VW for some years now, do have a very much respect for Ford. They are of a very excellent value for the driver. And, do offer a very large amount of luxury with practicality with their vehicles. Price/value/durability, and, owners satisfaction.

My father used to say FORD meant "fix or repair daily"

I'm happy to hear that others have had better luck. The Mondeo looks like a nifty samochod.

Hello

Bescheid: I have the 'kombi' version - on the site which URL you provided above it is called Mondeo Estate. It is a really nice car. Great acceleration, high top speed, much space inside (i can carry three kids in the bacskseat, of which two in those chairs for kids), which was far beyond capabilities of Opel Astra i drived before. My mondeo can go 35 miles per gallon of diesel fuel.
There was only one problem with that car - one of the high pressure injection pipes was broken and I had all replaced (free of charge :-D) on warranty.

My boss always say: car beginning with F are no worth of buying. That includes Ford, Fiat, Peugeot, Citroen and Renault. You may wonder why the last three, it is simple. together they are called "francuzy" - French :-).

Dear Janc, That is good fuel economy! diesels are good on fuel by just their nature. Diesels are not that common yet in the passenger division of cars here, but, with the currant escalation of fuel prices, who knows.

The currant price of regular gas of yesterday here: US measurements: Regular gas@ $2.28 per gallon. Midrange gas@ $2.38. Premium @2.48 and diesel@ $2.58 per gallon.

The diesel for some reason or another is much higher in price, but, goes much further in fuel economy.

What is your national speed limits on your interstates (freeway)?

ours here is 60 MPH or out side a congested area, 70 MPH.

I was laughing some what with your boss's feelings of bad cars beginning with F. I would suppose so, I don't know. I tend to believe that it is a matter of finding the vehicle that fits your needs, and if you like it, by all means purchase it and enjoy. New cars are things untried. Never can predict a failure until it happens. with the new warranties out now, well, personally I tend also to believe it is just relative to the fact. it is machine, a machine will break in time, we just want that time to be as far into the future as humanly possible.

Hi Jim, You are fast! And thanks for your fuel prices there. ARCO is usually around here, about 10 cents cheaper then many of the surrounding stations.

I purchase my gas at the local 7=11 store. It is CITGO and is very similar in price to some of the ARCO stations. My Jetta has a high compression ratio so the midrange gas is what I use. It seems to run better at acceleration while entering the expressway with out the bogging down.

Jettas have a anti-knock sensor on the motor block, you can use low octane fuel, but the sensor/computer will retard the ignition to prevent fuel ping (knock) and that is why they will bog down on high (VW style) acceleration. If that makes any sense.

Charles,

I drive a F-150 who loves gas ; ) But since the price hike I have been using my Chev Chavelle which gets good mileage. The Ford gets about 16 miles per gallon.
I have ridden in a Mercedes 230 CDM (or some three letter combination) that uses diesel, goes fast and gets 30 something miles per gallon. However, it costs about $50K

Hi

In Poland diesel fuel at my favorite station (Statoil) costs 3.99 PLN/litre which is roughly 4.20 USD/gallon. Almost twice as your price. Alas, I can't remeber regular gas prices.

As for speed limit:
- residential area 50 km/h between 07.00-23.00 - 60 km/h at night,
- regular roads outside residential areas - 90 km/h
- highways - 130 km/h (80 mph)

But I must say, we polish treat all speed regulations as non-mandatory suggestions (which has of course large impact on accident number), so there is nothing strange in seeing a car speeding 80mph at area with 30mph limits. All tickets I ever paid was for speeding. ;D

And BTW can you american folks explain me what is the difference with those gasoline types? We have only two basic types: E95 and E98, some vendors also offer super-hyper-power fuels, but this is usually just marketing.

And BTW 2 - I know that american cars usually have large engines, much larger than european counterparts. I am curious how powerful engines you have in your cars? We don't have much (if any) Saturns, F-150, Hummers and Montanas here so I can't check them by myself. And what is even worse Chevrolet is selling some crappy cars like Spark, Aveo or Lacetti instead of Camaros and Corvettes.

Hi

Yeah, Nancy, Tim Allen was good. But frankly I liked Missy Pyle more, her kinda 'exotic' look made great impression on me. ;D. Do you by any chance are SF fan?
