 Czech Republic - Poland in Wrocław
« Thread Started on Jun 16, 2012, 3:26pm »

Watching Czech Republic - Poland right now.
It is being played in Wrocław in Stadion Miejski.

Sometimes I switch the chanal to watch Greece - Russia briefly, that game is played in Warsaw in the National stadium.

Right now the positions are 1-0 for the Czechs and 1-0 for the Greeks.

We have 10 minutes left.

Poland and Russia lost. The Czechs and the Greeks can go on!

This is just a game, but I am sad for Poland, because they played good!

The Russians have a good team to! The victory and joy of one is the misery and sadness of the other.

I hoped for Poland in the finals. But that is an old dream now.

Tomorrow is Netherlands last chance. And we have very few chances. We have to win from Portugal, and Denmark has to lose from Germany. We didn't played well in the first two games. Tomorrow we have to score!

Dear friends,

Portugal and Germany won. It were fair and exiting games. Both the Dutch and the Portugese played well I must say. The Duthc played exellent in the first half, but were flabergasted or desillusioned when the Portugese scored their first goal in the second half of the first half of the Game. The Portugese team is good and Portugese soccer is exiting. I think I will support the Portuges team if they reach the finals. Ofcourse I wish the Germans the best luck too. But I always have a weak spot for the Portugese. And their economyb deserve a boost if they win.

Last remark: That the best may win and that Poland and Ukraine may have made a good impression on the foreig guests. I hope that Poznań, Wrocław, Dansk and Warsaw may benefit from the fans and tourists that stayed in Polish hotels, and went to Polish restaurants, café's and pubs.
Many people discovered Poland this EC, people who never had been to Poland before. Maybe a billion people watched to the games abroad. The Dutch team and media (television, radio, newspapers, magazines and blogs) were concentrated in Kraków, and therefor that city was on television every evening. A Dutch Ukrainian actress made documentries about Ukraine next to the regular football television program. In that way Duthc people learned about Ukraine and the difference between Ukraine and Poland. What the Duthc audience learned that Poland is a central-European country in the EU, with West-European living standards and infrastructure and that Ukraine stil has it's Sovjet heritage, and that that country is less developed and poorer than Poland and the Netherlands.

In the same time the Dutch learned about the Polish and Ukrainian hospitality and that there are Polish and Ukrainian people who are fond of Dutch football (some of them since 1974). Even if we lost and Poland lost, that is the positive thing of this tournament.

I congratulate Portugal and Germany with their victory!

Cheers,
Pieter

Pieter,

It was a sad news to realize that Polish and Dutch teams lost, but you are right, people who came to Poland from Western Europe realized that Poland is a normal country and it is ready to prepare the event of high format.

I am not sure why Greece advanced instead of Russia, Russia has a better goal score, but it lost to Greece. I have a hard time to understand new rules, does a team that wins scores always 3 points?

Jaga,

We agree, but I have to admid that I am not a large soccer expert nor a football fanatic. I like the European Championship, but does not follow the Dutch national competition or other European teams. Like in other countries football is the largest and most popular sport in the Netherlands. I played more tennis and hockey in my youth. And I was more bussy with rowing, surfing and swimming than soccer.

Football is the peoples sport here. The clubs have their fanbase in the working class and middle class neighbourhoods. And migrant kids have a chance to make a carreer in Dutch soccer. Look at the Surinamese, Dutch Antillian (Caribbean) and Moroccan players, in Dutch and other European clubs and in the Dutch National team.

Tie-breaking criteria UEFA Euro 2012

If two or more teams are equal on points on completion of the group matches, the following criteria are applied to determine the rankings (according to paragraphs 8.07 and 8.08 of the regulations, and amendment to 8.07 adopted by the UEFA Executive Committee):
1. Higher number of points obtained in the matches played between the teams in question;
2. Superior goal difference resulting from the matches played between the teams in question (if more than two teams finish equal on points);
3. Higher number of goals scored in the matches played between the teams in question (if more than two teams finish equal on points);
4. If, after having applied criteria 1 to 3 to more than two teams, two teams still have an equal ranking, criteria 1 to 3 are reapplied exclusively to the matches between the two teams in question to determine the final rankings of the two teams. If this procedure does not lead to a decision, criteria 5 to 10 apply in the order given;
5. Superior goal difference in all group matches;
6. Higher number of goals scored in all group matches;
7. If two teams which are tied in all criteria 1 to 6 play their last group match against each other (i.e., the result is a draw and the two teams have the same number of points, goal difference and goals scored), and provided no other teams within the group have the same number of points, the ranking of the two teams in question is determined by penalty shoot-out. Otherwise, criteria 8 to 10 apply in the order given;
8. Position in the UEFA national team coefficient ranking system;
9. Fair play conduct of the teams (final tournament);
10. Drawing of lots.

When I read the Racism and hooliganism part of this link I was amazed about the agression and violence of the Dutch fans in Ukraine and Poland. (even if they were provoked) I did not hear that on the Dutch news. I know that some Dutch fans get aggressive when they loose and cause trouble. That is childish behavior who can't accept that they have lost and attack the winners. In the Hague there were riots too of drunk Dutch supporters. The Dutch police had some difficulty to control the crowd.
