KIEV, Ukraine — Spain trounced Italy 4-0 in the European Championship final on Sunday, extending its reign as the best team in world football. Goals from David Silva and Jordi Alba in the first half gave Spain a convincing lead. Fernando Torres and fellow substitute Juan Mata added late goals. Italy was down to 10 men after the 64th minute. The team had used its substitutes when Thiago Motta was taken off due to injury. The victory lifted Spain to a record third straight major title, after winning Euro 2008 and the 2010 World Cup. Spain even allowed Italy the majority of first-half possession, yet its trademark quick passing game was lethal when required. Spain captain Iker Casillas was outstanding in keeping Italy’s attack at bay.

Thank you for your update. I am not surprised with The Spanish team strategy, for they have been notorious with their quick team work in passing. It is a surprise though, that the Italian team were not able to counter that strategy, but then that is the luck of the draw.
For once the game begins, it takes a life of its own, and the better team won.

It was a good game. I am not a great fan of organized sports, but stayed to watch the entire game. After seeing the strong Italian game against Germany, I was surprised to see the Italians so powerless against the Spanish.
It was a well fought game and it appeared clear the Spaniards played the better game. The Italian goalee seemed to have a talent for jumping in the wrong direction!
The other noteworthy aspect is how the game was uninterrupted by commercial breaks and not plagued by the American sports tendency to have 30 seconds of action and 5 minutes of setting up the next play. This made it much more pleasurable to watch a game played through and not have the stop-and-go motion so common in US sports. It also made it impossible to argue with a friend who stated how boring American baseball is!
The Spanish have a well won title.

guys, thanks for the update. I watched the parts of the game in a friend's house. Later we were passing a soccer fan's area in Krakow filled with a happy crowd. I wish Spain was playing Germans, then the game would be probably more interesting.

My Italian cousin-in-law was, apparently, not very happy and spouting all sorts of Italian obscenities to the television set.
