 Obama a Muslim? Hmmm...
« Thread Started on Sept 8, 2008, 5:02pm »

I posted this article not because I believe Obama is, or is not Muslim. I posted it because this statement, although not reported by the main stream media, has been a bombshell!

If his rumored Muslim faith was a political smear, He just made it a reality. This is a huge political blunder.

In the standard "Deny, Divert, and Distract" philosophy of American politics, I think we can expect a full on attack of all candidates religious beliefs or lack of. Enjoy the show!!

Tim

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Sen. Barack Obama's foes seized Sunday upon a brief slip of the tongue, when the Democratic presidential nominee was outlining his Christianity but accidentally said, "my Muslim faith."
The three words -- immediately corrected -- were during an exchange with ABC's George Stephanopoulos on "This Week," when he was trying to criticize the quiet smear campaign suggesting he is a Muslim.

But illustrating the difficulty of preventing false rumors about his faith from spreading, anti-Obama groups within one hour of the interview had sliced it out of context and were sending it around via email. They also were blogging about it.

Mr. Obama, who is a Christian and often proudly speaks about how his faith has influenced his public service, said he finds it "deeply offensive" that there are efforts "coming out of the Republican camp to suggest that perhaps I'm not who I say I am when it comes to my faith."

The exchange came after Mr. Obama said that Republicans are attempting to scare voters by suggesting he is not Christian, which McCain campaign manager Rick Davis said was "cynical."

Asked about it on ABC, Mr. Obama said, "These guys love to throw a rock and hide their hand."

"The McCain campaign has never suggested you have Muslim connections," said Mr. Stephanopoulos, who repeatedly interrupted Mr. Obama during the interview.

"I don't think that when you look at what is being promulgated on Fox News, let's say, and Republican commentators who are closely allied to these folks," Mr Obama responded, and Mr. Stephanopoulos interrupted: "But John McCain said that's wrong."

Mr. Obama noted that when Republican vice presidential nominee Gov. Sarah Palin "was forced" to talk about her pregnant 17-year-old daughter, he issued a forceful statement to reporters that the line of inquiry was "off limits." But he said the McCain campaign tried to tie him to "liberal blogs that support Obama" and are "attacking Governor Palin."

"Let's not play games," he said. "What I was suggesting -- you're absolutely right that John McCain has not talked about my Muslim faith. And you're absolutely right that that has not come."

Mr. Stephanopoulos interrupted with, "Christian faith."

"My Christian faith," Mr. Obama said quickly. "Well, what I'm saying is that he hasn't suggested that I'm a Muslim. And I think that his campaign's upper echelons have not, either. What I think is fair to say is that, coming out of the Republican camp, there have been efforts to suggest that perhaps I'm not who I say I am when it comes to my faith -- something which I find deeply offensive, and that has been going on for a pretty long time."

Asked to comment on the accidental misstatement illustrating the difficulty of the issue, Obama spokesman Bill Burton offered this comment: "I'm not surprised that the only outlet doing this story is The Washington Times."

Tim,
Is this another effort to stir the pot in this forum? This is the USA where religion and government separation was defined under the Bill of Rights. The loony toons right and left who are increasingly influencing politicians in our nation have become totally out of control and the politicians pander to them for votes. Let's just wait and see what comes of Palin and her association with the stealth Assembly of God. Extremist "religion" if religion is the correct word to describe these disturbed leaders and their followers. Reminds me of Jimmy Jones and the Koolaid disaster only worse. Their rhetoric smacks of another Jihad, Christian this time. The republican party has absolutely no conscience if they continue to embrace the religious right to garner votes. I do not believe Obama is a Muslim. I'll wait to see if any republican mud slingers come up with any proof that he is. Then what? Write in uncle Tim? May not be a bad idea.

I accept your nomination!

I shall run as a representative from the Spatula party.

"Firm... yet Fair" Thats our Creed!

My first act as President will be to ban all clowns. Everyone knows they are creepy. I will make an exception for Rodeo clowns (Technically Bullfighters) because they are awesome.

FTB would you consider being my Veep?

I only ask that when I occasionally take a random turn and create havoc that you back me up no matter what. Besides, Ive seen flashes of "Attack Dog" qualities in you. I dig that!!

Uncle,
What a team we'd make! You could rant about about your love for redneck America and I would balance the ticket by my pro choice position. I suggest we run on the "Stir the Pot" party line. Our slogan, "Do not pay attention to the Real issues" Snarl, growl and bare the teeth!

Uncle,
It's a deal as long as you stay off my pro choice toes. Wow, we could win it all. Not much time for fundraisers and we are way past the date of petition filings. How much money can your campaign raise? My supporters have pledged $2.00 This has got to be a grass roots movement and a write in. Have your people blanket the red states with pole posters and mine will do the same in the blue states. We may have to dig into our pockets for the cost of the paper for the posters and the ink in the computers, but with a concerted effort, the White house is in sight.
Let's Go Nuts!

You two would be a ticket that the other parties would really fear....er......maybe you would just have them so confused that they wouldn't even run against you!

Actually, Tim's original article posted on this thread I have to agree... in that the slip of the tongue may hurt him with some voters.

Mary,
Who's tongue are you referring to? As a staunch supporter and running mate of Candidate Tim, I heartily endorse a slip of the aforementioned"fleshy movable process" New Colligiate", page1229.
It may be a prime motivator of our supporters, red and blue. Cast your vote for the "Stir the Pot"ticket by posting a pole sign urging those in your community to back our "Do not pay attention to the REAL ISSUES" platform. Perhaps Tim's cabinet will consider you for the Head of Health and Human Services.

I think Ive got the money part figured out...

My biker buddies produce legendary amounts of beer cans, I'll sack em up and return them for cash. I think "energizing my base" Is going to be pretty easy!

I wasn't sure how FTB would play to my base but when I told them you liked to fish you were golden.
