OECD warns risk of severe recession in 17-country eurozone is rising as it cuts forecasts

The 17-country eurozone risks falling into a “severe recession,” the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development warned on Tuesday, as it called on governments and Europe’s central bank to act quickly to keep the slowdown from dragging down the global economy.

OECD Chief Economist Pier Carlo Padoan said the eurozone economy could contract as much as 2 percent economic this year, a figure that the Paris-based think tank had laid out as its worst-case scenario in November.

Euro-zone unemployment hits record high, fuels recession fears: The euro-zone’s unemployment rate surged to a record 10.9 percent in March, the highest since the euro currency was established in 1999, the Associated Press reports. According to official data from Eurostat, seven out of the 17 euro-zone countries have unemployment rates of 10 percent or more. Here’s a look at the seven countries and how their residents have been grappling with high unemployment rates.

With the currant situation in Spain, it is reasonable to believe that concerns for tourist visit and travel will be very high on the agenda of {must care for}. For with the economy at present being of what it is, the tourist dollar would be most welcome and worth protecting...

Usually as a protocol, upon debarking at the airport, there will be facilities set up for such situations for tourist support. Perhaps the agency you may be dealing with would check this out for you before hand, as a service..

Karl,

thanks for the advice. I usually hear that it is not good to exchange lots of money at the ariport. We will also be having our credit card. I am a bit worried at the situation but not terribly. I hope dollar, as you said, will be strong.

It is a turkey shoot in Spain at this time, but for every situation will be the opportunity.

As a person, I really enjoy to disdain to give advice, for reason that each situation is different in as of this, perhaps similar.

My own? Not so different then a zillion other folks. For my self if on my own, through which ever banking branch, to have them set up an account for my arrival. The account is prepayed and with adjustments for the daily monetary differences of percent.

In this manner, tensions are cut, and I have time and space to think. As well as your self, also do I carrie a credit card for emergency use. It is quite convenient in that automatic adjustments are made for the daily rate of exchange against the euro for which ever monetary exchange. And, the visa is practically universal in exchange.
