My grandfather was born in 1886 in the village of Perstuñ near Golynka which was in the gubernia Suwalki under the Russian Empire. Both villages are now located in Belarus just northwest of Grodno - very close to the Polish-Belarusian border. Each village now has a population of about 100 each.
I am trying to find more information about the villages and my grandfather's family. He left his home and family and sailed to USA from Antwerp in 1906.
He had two surnames on his passport written in Russian. As best can be translated into English the surnames are Banazhets and Banyukevich.
Any suggestions or help is appreciated. Thanks.

Dear Remick,
thanks for sharing with us your family story. Is it near Hrodna (Grodno) near Polish-Belarussian-Lithuanian boarder? This region has a multi-cultural and multi-national character. I wish you could scan and send me the Russian names of your grandfather. If you can, please send it to me (jaga@cableone.net). This can help me to find more ifo.
Do you have any other documents, pictures?
