The American Society of Civil Engineers was founded in 1854 and in 2003 the first woman held office as President of the organization. What the track record of other engineering professions is, I cannot say. However, a New Book Celebrates Extraordinary Women Engineers The group of Extraordinary Women Engineers Did you know Alice Morgan Martin worked with a team of engineers in the design of radio control units for commercial and military aircraft? This innovation revolutionized aircraft navigation, allowing pilots to fly anytime in all weather conditions and still track their locations and destinations. Did you know tissue engineers Gordana Vunjak-Novakovic and Milica Radisic have successfully grown heart tissue that actually beats? These and other interesting and remarkable facts appear in the new book, Changing Our World: True Stories of Women Engineers by Sybil Hatch; published by the American Society of Civil Engineers. Launched during National Engineers Week, the book celebrates the contributions of women engineers to every aspect of modern life. The book serves as a fresh perspective on engineering for young women. more about ordering the book: www.asce.org/bookstore/book.cfm?book=5861more about women engineers www.engineeringwomen.org/

Kai,
I noticed that here in America there are more women-engineers and more women skilled technically than in Poland.
On the other hand in Poland we had more women skilled (or just not afraid) to do math.

I have always enjoyed working with women engineers. With one exception in my experience, they work hard and they know thier business and they do a thorough job. Presumably they have to to "prove" themselves in a "male" profession. All I have seen in competence and a good work ethic.
It is good to hear of more women getting into a broader variety of professions.

Jaga
I wonder some times, ladies do have an effenity to being more skilled in math. This as personal experience as I am terrible in math. To pass the courses envolving math, it was my humble experiecne to elicite note taking trades for math tudering. The ladies were in an area they had the options of retaking low grade courses, I had not that luxary.
Although, while in Universtiy training, I did excelle in note taking and written esseys, the ladies did not seem to excelle in that area.

Charles Charles, in my experience - women are better in math than men but.... I heard there is a level, a high one, when men excell over women. Men are also better than women in orientation and many-dimentional skills - like technical drawings
