Happy birthday, Rabia! PS It is interesting to seethe limits of our own cultural familiarity. Simply trying to say, in an appropriate manner, in Arabic and to an Arabic woman, proves impossible for me, and perhaps most westerners. There are so many nuances to wishing "Happy Birthday" to different people that, for me, it proves impossible to be sure I am expressing it correctly. May peace be with you. Kai

Hello Jaga ; In fact, in my birthday my husband taking me out for dinner (accompanied by children, of course because I did not become familiar with leaving the children with maid in the period of the evening!) in the month of September most friends traveling to spend summer outside the United Arab Emirates. But friends either to contact me by phone or send messages. For children celebrate their birthday at school with friends.

I apologize to everyone if the Delayed reply, or if I am not much for me to be here,My sister's beloved left yesterday to London for treatment, after she suffered a clot in the heart and lung . And doctors discovered some tumors in the liver ,(think that it was probably the beginning of the liver cancer) . But we pray to God ,and we hope that she will recover soon.

Dear Rabia
You have done nothing to apologize for,,,,you have your hands full with such a young lovely family, it is enough you have the time and moments to be here..And most appreciated for you are missed in your absence.
I am so very sorry for your sister, although I do not know her, it is enough that she is your sister.. I do trust with great hope she will recover from such a situation with her health and with her strength in years and the skill of her physicians, she will rally forth and over come..
Karl

Karl says it well; your family obligations come first. May the doctors be the instrument of your sister's healing so that you may share many happy years. still. I am happy to hear you are raising your daughters to b multi-lingual. I hope they will grow up in a rich and peaceful world, with many opportunities to enjoy this world and its peoples.

Rabia, Through the years I invested some time in reading books and reading articles and essays about the Middle-east, Lebanon, Palestine, Israel and other Arab countries. Two of my Dutch friends studied/study arab because they were interested in the Arab culture and language (one of them is christian and the other jewish). I tried to understand Palestianians and also the pluriformity and vairiety of Palestinian opinions, and also the Palestinians of the West-Bank, Gaza, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and Tunesia (were the PLO was based). Unfortunately the only Middle-easterners I knew were an Egyptian (a Sunni Muslim man, a student at my art academy in Arnhem), Iranians (Shia Muslims, but also fierce Atheists, Nationalists and Marxists) and Iraqi Kurds. We have one national poet who is half Palestinian though, I once spoke him briefly at a bookstore in Arnhem. Ramsy Nasr he is called. Is the Palestinian dialect very different from the other Arab dialects or national languages? It is good that you want to raise your daughters billingual. I wish I was raised billingual, so that I could understand, read and speak Polish, the language of my mothers family. But I only can speak Dutch, German and English, and thus spoke English and German with Polish people in Poland. Like you said Arabic is your mother toungue, so your children should learn it propperly and be connected to their heritage, roots and the culture of both their parents families. This is a Palestinian song in support of the Tunesian revolution I like: Cheers, Pieter
