Jaga,
To my opinion the Centrist European rule or Federal stuctures must be limited to some key elements that important for all Europeans. The things the nation states, the European countries, can do themselves, must be left to the National governments, parlaiments and thus democracies themselves.
Again, we are not the USA, with a shared common culture, we European are very different from eachother. We are a diverse continent. I believe in regional development, in the economical, border crossing Euregions, and think the European countries can cooperate in the field of monetary policy, Trade, defense, migration issues and international law and security.
We have a succesful European innermarket, European infrastructure with European highways (the E numbers), railways, rivers and continental flight connections. Our Judiciaries, Justice ministries, State's attornies and police forces cooperate well in the cases of border crossing crime and smuggling (human trafficking).
So strong, limited (small), Federal, European structures are okay, but a strong centralistic rule from Brussels will get opposition from more Individualistic and solistic members of the Union, like Denmark, the Netherlands, Ireland, Great-Britain and etc.
Cheers, Pieter
