The Place: The American naval base on Oahu, Hawaii
The Event: The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor
The Memoies: A mantle of choking black smoke blotting out the sun...flames spewing from the twisted wreckage of our armada - battleships, cruisers, destroyers, support ships. Navy planes, and Hawaiian Air Force planes...the tragic loss of the lives of 2,403 valiant American servicemen & civilians who were killled, along with the 1,178 wounded.
Remember Pearl Harbor

What a wonderful find! It is not just a relic, but remembrance of a past times of struggle and advances in aviation used as weapons of war.
I may be wrong, but the recovered aircraft appears to be a Douglas SBD Dauntless. If so, by all accounts, it served very well in service of American Navy. What I have read of this fine aircraft is it was for the time, a very high performance machine with very fine handling characteristics.
