Looking for location of this village (1900 era) My grandfather Valentine Gramkowski came from there. Floclo Nowa wies meanis NEW VILLAGE. This is a very common name in Poland, many settlements had this name. At least you know that he came from Plock..... I wish I could help more, was the last name Gramkowski? Or maybe Grabkowski or Grankowski?

floclowes,
When did you get the names and descriptions of your grandfathers location?
When looking for a village it generally is described as
Wies Nowy, Powiat Plock, and I don't see a name for a voivodeship.
I was looking for my grandfathers farm and I learned that the locations or voivodeships were changed at a more recent time.
Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

I learned that the locations or vovoidships were changed at a more recent time. The voivodeships in Poland have changed several times throughout history, most recently in 1999.

I found it on Google Earth! now if I only had an address, but I don't know if there are any Gramkowskis living there now.

Nowa Wieś is located in the center of Poland. Unfortunately, neither the Polish nor English Wikipedia articles give more information than the fact that exists. Maplandia and Mapquest both have it located in the southeast corner of Poland. www.mapquest.com/?q=50.232,21.7419

Kai, John, Eric, thanks for your help. Mala Wies is a very common name since it is the same as "small village". I will try to contact Flow and let her know what you have found.

Home sweet home. I use to cross the Warta back then when I was just a small kid....on my uncle's back. Harvested the rye, picked the dzikie jagody in the forests nearby. Życie duchowe at its finest.

A cousin found me through Facebook--I list my maiden name as part of my full name. He has traced the family name Waszkielewicz back to the 17th C. He sent me pictures of the family home of my grandparents as well as them siting in from of it. I also have those vey same pictures given me by my father. Tis area was in Poland before WW I and now in Belarus, part of Russia. I don't have much background on grandfather Valentine Gramkowski, except now I can place him on a map. Flo

I am contemplating going to Belorus and Poland. Anyone going? Are you a U.S. citizen? Since Poland is an EU country, it will be very easy for you to go there. However, relations between the U.S. and Belarus are extremely bad, and so you may have some more difficulty. I've been to Belarus before, I absolutely love the country, but I received a visa as a guest of the Belarussian government, so I didn't have to worry about bad political relations making things difficult for me.
