On June 20th, my wife and I will be celebrating our 43rd year of marriage. On that faithful day we exchanged our vows at St. Brendan's Church in Colebrook, New Hampshire. The Rev. Albert Bellefeuille officiated and to our surprise the church bells tolled as we walked down the aisle to the exit. From what I heard later it was the first time that the church bells rang during a wedding ceremony.
The first dance my wife and I did was a Polka and we did it well. Her father, an old English/Scotsman remarked that it was the first time he saw his daughter dancing well. Polish pride you know.
Well, back to June 20th. On this day in 1995, exactly 25 years later, our granddaughter was born. A very fitting gift to my wife and I from our daughter and we thanked her profusely.
Well now, Thursday the 20th, she will be 18 years old. My Marine instincts tell me I have to sharpen my attack skills to protect her innocence. Another year from now, off to Boston and college. Hmmmm - - how do I perform my duties with her that far away?
Is there anything special that we have planned. My wife will receive a bouquet of roses. One for each year we are married. A bottle of fine wine and good steak for dinner is predicted. And, knowing our age, a short nap thereafter will bring the day to a end.
Life is not all that bad.
