these meetings of young people are bringing many people together. I learned about it from Catholic weekly newspaper in Idaho. Here is more: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Jul 28, 2013 / 09:03 am (CNA/EWTN News).- “The next World Youth Day in the year 2016 will be in Krakow, in Poland!” the Pope said at the close of Sunday Mass in Rio July 28. The event is sure to attract millions. Bl. Pope John Paul II was Archbishop of Krakow before his election to the papacy. The archdiocese has about 1.5 million Catholics and over 1,100 diocesan priests across 439 parishes, according to the website Catholic Hierarchy. Cardnal Stanislaw Dziwisz, the present Archbishop of Krakow, was personal secretary to John Paul II. Poland has over 38 million people, about 90 percent of whom are Catholic, the CIA World Factbook says. Poland is one of the most Catholic countries in Europe. Though the nation remained staunchly Catholic under Soviet-imposed atheistic communism, and took special pride in the papacy of John Paul II, the country has become somewhat more secularized in the last two decades. Weekly church attendance has dropped below 40 percent. www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/krakow-to-host-next-world-youth-day/

Jaga
I was not aware of World Youth Day, this is a good thing for young people to attend and look forward to. It is easy to understand the aspects of this event, and it is good of the city of Krakow to host the event. For withen the confines of such an event, provides attending young people and excellent opportunity of exchange with others of a different nationality. With this, an opportunity as a learning experience and making new friends.
Thank you most kindly for presenting..

Karl, I think it would be a great event for Krakow and for the youth! I hope that some kids from Idaho would come. I was almost thinking, what if we would send Ela there?

Jaga
It would be a good thing for Ela and for others to exchange with her. For she has the advantage of being American, with Polish mother and visits to Poland, with this, speaking skills in Polish..

Jaga,
This is exciting news for Poland! When I first heard that World Youth Day was going to be in Krakow, I thought to myself, "Haven't they already had a World Youth Day in Poland?" Then I remembered that whenever JPII visited Poland, it was like a World Youth Day because of how the youth loved him and flocked to see him.
My middle daughter who is now 30, traveled to Rome for World Youth Day in the Jubilee year of 2000. A group of young people accompanied by a few adults went from our very small parish. If you want Ela to go, you could lead a group! It was a wonderful experience for my daughter! She met people from all over the world (including Poland!) who shared her faith.

Karl, two of my friends were in India for youth day about 30 years ago. This was a very interesting experience for them! In that time travelling to such an exotic destination was not easy. They lived with host families.

Jeanne, I am so glad that you replied. You are right, wherever Pope was in Poland it felt like a youth day! Your daughter was there in Rome. I did not really think about being in charge but maybe I should try to get more involved. Good idea. I am so glad to see you here more. Maybe you can help us to focus on Polish aspects of the forum! we need more women

Jaga,
Thanks for your welcoming comments! I don't know how much I can help turn the focus to Polish aspects...I'm strictly a "learner" as far as things Polish go; that's why I visit Polish forums! I do enjoy learning all I can about Poland.

I do enjoy learning all I can about Poland. Jeanne Some how I missed your post presence,,Welcom back.... Now then to the business at hand,,think not your self as a learner,,for I would very well suspect you know quite about Polish subjects for many to learn from you,,includant of my self.. Remember, you are here with friends that enjoy your input in the various many subjects brought to light upon the forum... A little secret we must share though, my English is excellent, knowledge of North America is excellent {includant of Mexico}, but, by virtue of input of the many sujects as brought forward here, my self, am in the various manners of learning from those of your self. For langage is a evolving process of change, and, it is most embarrassing to miss state a subject matter in what first was concieved as perfectly understandable. Then, to find out to my changren, that my self had misunderstood in a most embarrassing manner..Then what? To assist you in catching up,,in short past, there were considerable interest in preserving the forum to a more Polish subjective interest. With this, considerable efferts in the queston of: How to attract new members to suppliment the small core of active members. Please do not be hesitant with subjects of Polish to offer in what ever form you wish that. For what may seem as trivial, may just set off quite a discussion. My self, not attempting to sail under two flaggs, for that would be nonsense, since I am not Polish. In this case, if perhaps to have at hand, a subject of Polish, yes indeed so, I will present it. But, in that abscense, my post will usually be of European, with primarly Western Europe. I mean not to bring displeasure to any in this manner, simply sharing what we see with some hope and trust it will be of interest to some one accross the pond, or in my case, North across the borderlands. Once again, welcom back Jeanne, it is good to see you once again.. {For got to mention: Although at times, my post may appear anti-American, may I assure you I am not, it is just the American Foreign policy that is irritating to many of us}. karl, Thank you for your kind response to my comments. I appreciate your acknowledgement of my presence. You will note after a time, I'm sure, that I have not changed my posting routine/style from when I previously participated in this forum, and prefer to be mostly an observer and as I said before, a "learner." But I do hope that on occasion, I will find topics that I find interesting, and that I may have a legitimate comment to contribute. I found previously that my interests and beliefs are not really in line with those of many of the participants of this forum (which is fine, I'm not complaining, just stating a fact), and I assumed that was the reason no one seemed interested in what I had to say...which led to my abandoning of this forum. But, I am back to "test the waters," and see how things are going now! jeanne

Perhaps not post reply, but at least read. Be not concerned so much with testing waters,,heck, who cares, put it out there and be counted. Withen the confines of my work, I must provide some kind of answers to questions previously laid upon my desk for action. On occasion though, what I must provide with return information, is not exactly the answers/actions wished for, but that is the way the bird flys in a high wind, he may crap a bit to stay in the air, but his wings are still flapping even if blown into the sea. Karl Karl, Please don't misunderstand what I am saying...I certainly don't mind hearing opposing views from others...and I like a good debate. Of course it is the nature of us humans to have differing views and opinions; that's what makes life (and conversation!) interesting. Rather it is being ignored, or made to feel invisible that makes for an uncomfortable atmosphere, and causes the one who is the object of that treatment to look for a more congenial place to be! So as I said, I am testing the waters to see if they are comfortable for swimming or not! Thanks for sharing your insights, though! Jeanne

Jeanne, yes, you were right that the Youth day was in 1991. I remember it a bit. I guess, I was already 30 years old and then I felt that I do not belong to the youth then...... Still, I would like to play a role in the next one, if possible. They organize a trip to Poland from Idaho.

Think of it as a once-in-a-lifetime-opportunity! Since this will be the second World Youth Day in Poland, chances are there will not be another there for quite a while. World Youth Day is wonderful no matter where it is held, and trips to Poland are always wonderful, but the combination of the two, WYD in Poland, is an occasion not to be missed! Keep us updated on your plans! Jeanne
