I hate Windows 8. I'm glad, though, that you were able to save all your data and that you have a working computer again!

It looks ugly. Terribly, terribly ugly. Eric That is ok, for these things are designed to benefit the user, if the design is wrong, then the designer is at fault. My self? Was to receive the new Toshiba with windows 8.1 with an open mind. With this, an expected departure from the old to the new, commensurately, requiring new learning as both a challenge and a new window into the present. What I found was: A completely different departure from the previous Vista with different icons for navigation. A desk top filled with various tiles that required a different learning curve. This once becoming used to, was more pleasant then the previous. The new versus in contrast to the old, is light years in advancement in speed and screen size. In the first, I was not exactly happy with the loss of the previous word perfect programme once was I to enjoy with the capability for designing a mask for fairly specific reports and then, another for memos. What the new version has though, once simply using patience and exploration of the various programmes, was simplified variation of Word. I must confess though, in the first, my patience was at end with a strong wish to simply forget this darn thing. But, in the end, I am happy with this new machine as a tool for work and communication such as demonstrated as here. I use and depend upon a lap top, and was careful to in this instance, to insure of black keys. The previous machine was with a type of silver/grey I was not happy with. Karl

Folks, remember. You can always set up a desktop like on your old operating system under these new Win 8 and 8.1
This way you'll have a familiar set to start.

John,
I love your picture when you were younger. Yes, I have Windows 8, quite a change, need to learn. I guess, all of us want to get younger. Eric is just a kid in his picture.
Karl, Windows 8 system made too many changes, it is also often incompatible to the previous versions. Too difficult to adjust. Windows 8 behaves as like it was for the kids playing with their tablets or smartphones.

Thank you most kindly for your valuable tip. For I was thinking of this as a possible action, but decided to keep the desktop as is. For during this time, I have learnt to use it and as it works very well for my use, it is to new learning as the normal manner of life. Also, may I compliment on your new personal avatar, please to not be concerned for I like ladies, but you were quite a handsome blade in those days. I do well emagine it was quite a time keeping the ladies from swamping your date calendar.. Karl

I was curious, with your windows 8, do you have the button on switch? Mine has this button but some of the earlier versions were with out the manual on button. I was able to access my E-Drive from my old computer but only if the install disk was going, then not any documents created with the Word Perfect programme. This in self has created a certain amount of irritation in side my thinking cap. Fortune was on my side upon this instance, for by a fluke of luck, some was tucked away as hard copies in files I keep locked up for easy access in case of quick need. I was wondering, would by instance you would be referring to the coloured tiles on the desk top as being child like? I am just curious is all. For my initial empression was not very favourable with those multitude of coloured tiles. You are so correct though with some apps being very difficult to adjust. It is a new life for myself also in this manner. I think perhaps if we had in the first, learnt on this new technology in the first, it would be as old hands for us. But, I think we were spoilt with the old versions we had learnt on. Karl
