Could someone kindly translate the following Polish to English for me? This comes from a webcam site where I watch a nest of White Storks in Tomaszow Boleslawiecki. Last evening there were four chicks and this morning only the oldest and largest two were left. I'm wondering what happened. Hopefully this will clear up the mystery:
"W nocy z 25/26 Czerwca ze wzgledow zdrowotnych dwa najmlodsze pisklaki zostaly wyciagniete zgniazda"
Sorry I don't have accents on the proper letters, etc.!
Thank you!
Jeanne

Thank you! Jeanne Jeanne, I believe what they are saying is that on the night of 25/26th of June two fledgelings (Youngest storks) were pulled from the nest for health reasons.

JJ, Thank you so much...that makes sense. The stork eggs were laid over a period of several days, so the eggs also hatched during the span of more than a week. The first two hatchlings were much larger and more aggressive than the younger ones. I'm sure the younger chicks found it hard to compete effectively for food. Your translation also makes me feel better...I thought perhaps the mother had tossed the two smaller chicks out of the nest. The nest was off-camera for a while last evening; now I know why! Thanks again, Jeanne

John, good translation. Jeanne, sorry I did not see it earlier. It looks like good news! Yes, Jaga, hopefully it is good news. To have the chicks removed from the nest to be cared for is better than the prospects of their trying to survive with larger and more competitive siblings! Of course, the chicks that are raised in captivity don't always survive either. Some do not grow fast enough to be able to make the long flight to Africa at the end of summer...so we must hope that these two do manage to survive and rejoin their family in the wild. The White Storks are such beautiful and interesting creatures and such a strong presence in Polish culture that we want them to flourish! Here's the link in case anyone wants to take a look-see at the nest: bocianybolec.pl/Jeanne

Jaga,
Thank you for that link...I do remember reading that article previously when I first began visiting the Polish Culture website.
It's funny you should mention Nancy...I actually think I found my way to your website and this forum after seeing a comment Nancy posted on a forum at another White Stork webcam site. If I remember correctly she had your website listed as part of her profile...in any case, that was a long time ago, probably eight years or so! (and the webcam site I first encountered Nancy on is no longer operational...)
Jeanne
p.s. Update on the chicks that were removed: Today, when the camera panned the surrounding area, I noted the two smaller chicks had been moved to a kind of "nursery nest" near to the parents' nest. It is a smaller nest on a lower platform that is accessible by ladder so that the birds can be fed by caretakers. Let's hope they thrive!

From facebook - - - Przedzienkowski Jakub 4 hrs · Two links to stork nests in Poland. Comments from Debbie Greenlee, The stork parents (mother has three bands/rings on her legs - she likes jewelry!) had a total of five eggs this year but only four hatched. Two nights ago the smallest two storks were removed because they were sick (a veterinarian was called) but they were returned to the nest today (Saturday) in good health. bocianybolec.pl/Ustroń nest: Very sad situation again this year. Mom and Dad had four storklets that hatched but all died due to too much rain/parents unable to feed them. So, this nest does not have any babies yet the parents are still there. www.bociany.edu.pl/

This is a sad story...no chicks for this season, so the only thing to do is to hope for a better outcome next year...
