We are going to England and Scotland on July 1st. We will be there until July 23 going through London, Edinburgh. Loch Ness region and then to the Eastern England, Norfolk, Cambridge. There is still a couple of days, but we also need to take Ela to Salt Lake since she will be with gradma there in Texas. I hope it would not be too hot for her in Texas. I am glad to have break from Idaho!

Jaga
What a wonderful trip to take to England and Scotland and the weather should be nice for you both. I emagine Grandmother will be happy with the time with Ela, for then both to have this time together, Grandmother and Granddaughter. Time passes too fast for us, it is then to enjoy our time together whilst the moment is with us.
For some reason, my self have never been to England, no particular reason, just I would suppose, just took the opportunity. I like the English people for the most part, they are different but have good prospective on life, and do know how to have fun.

Enjoy your trip! Too bad Ela won't be able to join you in the UK, but I'm sure she'll have fun with her grandmother!

Karl and Eric,
thanks for your posts. Karl, good weather in GB includes always some rain... we just need to take a raincoat. There are so many places to see, especially in Scotland. For Ela it is important to be with her grandma now when grandma is still in a good shape. I hope that Ela will be able to go to Scotland in the future.
Eric, how is summer in Florida? Karl, how is summer in Puebla?

Jaga,
Have a wonderful flight to Europe and enjoy the countryside, culture and hospitality of our Western neighbors. July 1st I will meet my sister and my 18 year old niece who come to the Netherlands from South-Africa. They will stay two weeks in the Netherlands and Europe. A family reunion with my parents, my sister, me and my niece. I hope that the West-European weather will be kind to us in England, Scotland and the Netherlands. And Germany if Kaima is stil there? London is a wonderful city. I don't know Cambridge and Edinburgh personally. I have been to the old university city Oxford. If Camebridge is as beautiful and nice as Oxford you will have a wonderful time there. English people in general are friendly and hospitable. Very polite and well mannared. They will help you if you are looking for a direction.
The weather is always a risk in England, because it is a rainy country, but if you are lucky and the sun shines it is a wonderful green country (also due to the rain). A lot of Dutch for some reasons are fond of Scotland (coincidental also a Calvinist country), and I always hear wonderful stories of Dutch people who went there. Magnificent, raugh landscapes, wonderful towns and villages, beautiful cities and interesting culture, history and present day existance. (Scotland today; Modern Scotland) Karl, ofcourse is right; English people are different than Continental Europeans, but they have a marvellous sense of humor and know how to appreciate life and thus make something of their lives. England is a wonderful nation. I have always enjoyed the BBC, English cinema, British sitcoms, English detectives, the company of English people, the English language (British English) and the fact that we had English neighbors when I was a child and teenager.
Cheers, Pieter

Karl, how is summer in Puebla? This spring has been wet with some sunshine into new summer. The storms come out of the mountains as thunderstorms then follow the valley to pass and a new one then approaches. The farmers enjoy this weather for it is just in time for planting and rapid crop growth. This gives the new plant growth time to strengthen before the hot summer heat, for with the mountain altitude, the ground will dry out unless carefully watered and tended. The famers grow a considerable variety of crops ranging from corn/squash/beans/rice/potatoes/yams peppers and so on. The soil here is mountain soil and is course but very good for crops as potatoes for the soil does not compact but once cultivated allows the soil to breath and enhance plant growth. Karl

Happy travels, Jaga! I will be passing through Poland tomorrow, and since this is the restricted Host Forum, I can plainly say my German friend loaned me his car this summer with the one restriction that I not take it to Poland. Poland has a reputation over here like Mexico does in the US, one of car theft.
Well, I broke away from the Czech family and drove through Germany instead of the Czech Republic to get to Slovakia. Hopefully I will get there tomorrow, but I am between Bautzen and Gorlitza, on the Polish border. I drove north if the freeway to Niesky, and even before I pulled into this refgional town, the countryside reminded me od German Texas. Then driving into Niesky it was sttrongly reinfirced. I expect that ANY German Texan who came here would say "well, of course, this is the Germany the family came from, it is so much like home!"
Really, if you and your husband are along the west border of Poland on a future trip, I strongy recommend you take a drive through here.
It is Saturday night and the 2 or 3 stoplights were turned off at the end of the business day!
Obviously, I took an instant liking to this town.
Kai

Pieter, Eric, Karl and Kai,
thanks for greetings! I am so excited to go to GB. My god son, a son of my best friend from Poland lives in Edinburgh now. Lots of Polish people lives there. We will probably take my friend to the North, and do the trip around the Loch Ness and the castles region there.
Pieter, glad you have your family back with you. I was worried for some time that the life would become impossible for white people in South Africa, but this is not the case. Referring to Scotland and rain, yes, we are planning to take two raincoats, but the rain is there all the time... so we have to just get used to it. I think I understand why Dutch love Scotland... it is so much nature there. We will see.
Eric, keep dry in Florida. I always enjoy your posts, especially if you are not terribly frustrated... but if you are... good you have a place (mainly facebook) to release your emotions. We had a thunderstorm yesterday here in Idaho, it probably came from Florida. Our cat was hidden in the basement.
Kai, Poland had a bad reputation of car thieves since 80s. Unfortunately, my brothers and their families cars were also stolen in Poland... You need to be careful, but I think if you are careful it should be OK. I AM SO GLAD THAT YOU KEEP US POSTED DURING YOUR LONG TRIPS!
Karl, +++famers grow a considerable variety of crops ranging from corn/squash/beans/rice/potatoes/yams peppers and so on+++ I wish I could see Mexico from your side.....not as a bunch of tourists resorts.
++++++++++++++++++ need to finish we leave to Salt Lake now.

Jaga,
Have a good and safe journey to Salt Laken now. And after that a great time in England and Scotland. It Will be a good time for you there. Without the care of your child and a lot of time to enjoy the landcapes, country side, and the Scottish towns and citites. Hope you Will experience some scottish folk culture there and the famous piperbands. Scots are definately different than the English. In England you probably will experience the authentic pub, which next to a bar is a sort of gathering ground (place) and alternative community center in English villages and small towns. I hope that you will enjoy the cosy and old traditional English country side, with it's wonderful farm land, river sides, hills, trees and grasslands. England is known for it's castles and gardens too.
I had an English language course in Oxford in 1989, and enjoyed my stay in the hospitable and warm house of an English guest family for two weeks. What a nice people where the couple that took care of me and a German fellow student of mine. Oxford was a Romantic, cosy and historical town with a lot of old college buildings, churches, pubs, the Thames river that flows through it, and the fact that my fellow students from France, Spain, Japan, Italy, Germany and Austria were nice, made my stay there pleasent too. So I have fond memories of England from my stay there in the summer of 1989.
Cheers, pieter
