John, If she has no connection to the Eastern-Ukraine separatist rebels or the policies and political network of her father, she should be able to live in the Netherlands and protected by the Dutch authorities against possible Dutch people who want to attack or harm her. She has a Dutch boyfriend and she is our guest. We have to make a distinction between ' our disagreement' and ' conflict' with the Russian president, Russian separatist in Eastern-Ukraine and their supporters and individuals of Russian descent. We can't label someone ethnically, racially, on her nationality, language and culture, because we don't like her ethnicity, nationality, culture and thus background. The Dutch authorities have the protect her safety. Since her adress is known, I hope that she will find another place to live safely or uses disguises to protect her own safety. We have to stick to our own values, ethics, equality for the law, human rights, pluriform, free and democratic society with a trias politica, civil society, freedom of speech, and tolerance for ethnic, religious, national, political, cultural and sexual diversity. I personally don't like the national atmosphere of hysteria or exaggeration after the disaster of July 17th 2014. I regret the fact that Maria Putin’s and her partner Jorrit Faassen's address has been made publically. That intelligence agencies and the Dutch authorities may have and are following her steps, due to her family relationship with her father Vladimir Putin could be logical, but she should be protected from the public outrage after the disaster in Eastern-Ukraine, and have a safe stay as long as she is living in the Netherlands. For 8 days after eachother it was the only news. You can also add to that the suffering of the Palestinians in the conflicts in and around their refugee camps in Lebanon, Syria and Iraq. They were target there as unwanted minorities and as people who belong to ' the wrong camp'. In Iraq and Syria they suffered as a foreign, Sunni Muslim, Arab minority, under the hands of Shia militia ( death squads in Iraq) and Baath party government forces (in Syria). In Lebanon the Palestinians live as second class citizens in over crowded refugee camps, in poverty and often unemployed, because they aren't allowed to become Lebanese citizens -eventhough they are living there since 1948 and some since 1967-. They aren't allowed to purchase land, they can't buy houses or appartments, they have difficulties with founding their own private companies. Their prisons are their refugee camps. These Lebanese Palestinians also suffered for decades from infighting between different Palestinian armed factions in the camps. But in the same time other victims must get the attention they deserve. An Air Algerie plane crashed in Mali killing all 118 people who were aboard. This is terrible too. And the families, friends, colleages, neighbors and relatives of these victims are hurt too. But this crash get's less attention, because it was in Africa. France was hit hardest by the crash, with 54 nationals killed. In this post I wanted to focus on the double values behind the news, and the hierarchy in the news. If something happens in Europe or the USA or with a majority of Westerners it get's first priority in the Western media. If it is in the Middle-east it is second in line. If things happen in Africa, South-East Asia or Southern-America/Latin-America, that news is third in line. Cheers, Pieter |

My criticism at the Dutch press, media and tv and partly the Western-media about the media coverage of the plane disaster in Eastern-Ukraine, doesn't concern the heartfelt and sincere condolences, prayers and empathy of the Americans, Ukrainians, Russians, other Europeans, and Malayans, Dutch, Australians for the victims that died on Ukrainian soil, due to that war crime that was commited there. I appreciated your words of compassion and consolation. I put a lot of attention to the disaster too, because for more than a week it has been the main topic in this country. Now slowly normal life is returning and other subjects get their right attention too. We have to return to normality and let the experts. (prime-ministers, ministers of foreign affairs, the diplomats, the police officers, forensic experts and military do their job in Europe, in Ukraine and between the countries in the flights transporting bodies, body parts and debri)
We Dutch and Australians should be greatful for the foreign solidarity we received and the amount of media attention we got. For the families of the victims and the friends of the victims it was good that they got some attention and that the victims will not be forgotten. Now we have to monitor the situation and hold the Ukrainian and Russians authorities responsible for their words, actions and agreements they made with the Malaysian, Dutch and Australian authorities, the UN, the EU, USA, Great-Britain, Belgium and Germany. International law has to be followed and everything must be done to bring all the victims back home and to collect their belongings for their relatives, family and loved ones (the partners who stayed behind).

Maria Putin as most should understand, has nothing to do with what ever her fathers actions are. But to some, she is a target for only the reason she is his daughter with this is the unfortionant reality that is hers by virtue of birth. It is as Pieter has fore mentioned, to the protection as a guest in The Netherlands that will be foremost for at least the foreseeable future.
