discovered the pulsar PSR B1257+12 in 1990 in Puerto Rico with planet/mass circulated around. There is a huge article in current Discover Magazine about him

good job. He is not even Polish American, he actually started in Poland in Torun. The same pictures were in the Discovery articles.
He has a bad luck in the observatory in PR since the mirror could not be moves, so he had top concentrate on one piece of sky, this is where he noticed a very fast pulsar, microsecond pulsar, but he could not match it with any standard description, so he realized that there had to be some matter than causes gravitational fluctuations.
So challenge is sometimes good!
