It is not the US, but island nations dominate in obesity.....Tonga, Samoa and Kiribati, small island nations in the Pacific, top the list, with roughly four out of five of their citizens being overweight or obese. They are followed by a slew of Middle Eastern countries – Qatar, Kuwait, Libya, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia. Mexico, Turkey, Chile and Iceland also rank above the U.S. The U.S. comes in 27th with 66.3 percent of its population being obese or overweight. I could not understand why Palestine was high on that list! The least overweight countries by this measure are Ethiopia and North Korea, with 6.1 percent and 4.4 percent of their population being overweight or obese, respectively www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2015/04/22/youll-never-guess-the-worlds-fattest-country-and-no-its-not-the-u-s/?tid=hybrid_linearcol_3_na

An interesting situation that makes one wonder. For is it the diet or genetics, or perhaps both. It would be unfair to section off Mexico for the matter of differences in ethnic populations between European {American} centres. Then, there is the various indian populations that are residual of long past indian invaders such as the Mayans and Aztecs with such people as the Yaqui. Although the Yaquis mainly are North in the Sonora state, we still have some here in the South.
Very few people will mess with most any Yaquis, they are not mean or cruil, but do still together as families. If provoked, they for the most part disregard their own safety in destroying those that have disregarded their peace. Even the Federals fairly much leave them alone let alone the gangsters be it mobster or other wise, will give a wide birth to those neighbourhoods with Yaqui families.
The diets vary with income and place, perhaps this would be the deciding facture of over weight. For most, eat a very healthy diet of natural and processed food as observed in the market places. The grocery stores are not so different then in the north {USA} with a very large variety of various foods and sweets. If to read the tin labels, salt and sugar is often an additional ingredient. But with this, a great deal of corn and wheat based foods are purchased. For many of the house whole food preporations are comprised of a great deal of corn which is not refined and beans both fresh and refried. Natural cooking oil is a purchased product with both conventual bread for the table and flat bread. With this, a nice variety of fresh vegtables for the table.
Even many of the more higher income level families will grow a garden for their own vegtable home use. I think perhaps it would be to the low income city people living in flats with out the land space to grow a garden to then depend upon the markets for their groceries and subsequent high fat diets that suffer the most with excess weight.
