Poznań football party turns nasty08.06.2015 09:34 Thousands of people took to the streets of Poznań to celebrate Lech Poznań winning the title of Polish champions, however the party soon turned sour with hooligans turning violent. The spontaneous party soon turned violent. Photo: PAP/Jakub KaczmarczykLech Poznań managed the draw they needed to clinch the Polish title on Sunday, wrapping up the last day of the season with a 0-0 result against Wisła Kraków. Football fans celebrated with flags and fireworks in the centre of the city in west-central Poland. But the positive atmosphere soon changed when hooligans took over the spontaneous party. These drunkenly hurled glass bottles at the crowd and destroyed property. The police was forced to use pepper spray on the rowdy crowds on the Stary Rynek ( old market square) in the city. According to information by the police, as many as 300 hooligans wanted to enter * a squat house on Paderewski street and set it on fire. The police managed to close access to the street and stop this from happening. Among the damages was a transmission van owned by national broadcaster TVP. The operator of the van, Bartłomiej Wojtczak told TVP Info that he requested police assistance, but this never materialised. Hooligans managed to break some of the glass on the van and damaged the broadcasting system on the van including the antenna. Wojtczak said that this could cost up to PLN 300,000. A spokesperson for the police said that a thorough investigation will be launched and the perpetrators brought to justice. It reminds me of the Netherlands in the past when similar celebrations in the Netherlands went wrong. There are even connections between some Polish and Dutch Hooligans, like Lechia Warszawa and ADO Den Haag. Rotterdam Hooligans smashed windows of Rotterdam stores and vandalized their own city when they won the title, Amsterdam Hooligans did the same in Amsterdam.
Unfortunately Hooliganism seems to be a larger problem in Poland than in the Netherlands. We have unfortunately longer experience with these type of soccer fans. In the Netherlands and Great-Britain there are very strict (some say extreme) anti-hooligan legislation and measures. At risk matches abroad or at home, the hard core of Hooligans have house arrest. They are prohibited to enter their own club's stadium or the stadium of the rival clubs.
Stadiums have become fortresses with very extensive safety measures. Chairs are vandalize proof and soccer fans aren't allowed to take in goods that can be used as weapens. They are Frisked at the entrence and camera's follow all the movements in the stadium. At the slightest disturbance stewards of the own club remove the trouble makers. And if they are hindered, attacked or abused the riot police ME (Mobiele Eenheid), the Dutch riot police will move in.

Lech Poznań pull through as Polish champions08.06.2015 09:31Lech Poznań managed the draw they needed to clinch the Polish title on Sunday, wrapping up the last day of the season with a 0-0 result at home against Wisła Kraków.Lech Poznań coach Maciej Skorża is held aloft by his team on Sunday. However, while Legia notched up a 2-0 win over Górnik Zabrze, the Poznań side proved unshakeable, keeping Wisła Kraków at bay. It is the first time that the Poznań side has won the Polish title since the 2009-2010 season. Lech Poznań ultimately wrapped up the season with 43 points, followed by Legia Warszawa with 42 and Jagiellonia Białystok with 41. Source: IAR

Poznan had always very dedicated fans and dangerous. Did all this damage happened in Poznan? Legia used to be run by military, so any new recruit who was good in soccer could play in Legia. Wisla and Cracowia are two oldest Polish sport teams.
Was the championship played in Sosnowiec? I saw the name Zaglebie Sosnowiec there?

Jaga,
Maybe the images you saw of Sosnowiec were of an earlier match. The articles and images of Polish radio don't say where the latest match of Lech Poznań - Wisła Kraków was played. That was probably in Poznań, but I can't verify that, because I don't even know the name of the Poznań stadium of Lech Poznań, neither do I know where they played exactly. In Poznań I presume.
Cheers, Pieter the Dutchman

Pieter,
yes, the immages could be messed up. Lech and Wisla are also old rivals and theur games bring big crowds.
