Guys, check our main website or the newly published article: www.polishsite.us/index.php/history-and-people/people-in-history/511-poles-in-the-space.htmlPoles in the Space with the photo of the first Polish astronaut which was sent together with Soviets for the first mission. Also Americans of Polish origin who went to the space are listed together with the famous astronomers, like Heweliusz from Gdansk. I saw his monument last year when I visited Gdansk (Danzig)

Nictoe,
Copernicus is of course the main Polish hero, still, I wanted to mention others, these who are less known but also deserve an appreciation.

I wonder... how is Mirosław Hermaszewski regarded in Poland today? Is he considered a hero for being the first and only Polish citizen cosmonaut, is he considered to be a Soviet collaborator, or is he more or less forgotten by now?
You were in Poland when he went into space, Jaga, so how was this event commemorated in the Polish press at the time?

Eric, I was also worried that he would be treated badly, but from what I saw a couple of years ago in press, he was well liked.
