Dear John,
You posted an interesting thread with a youtube video about 'Making metallic hydrogen at Harvard'. It triggered my attention, because in Arnhem I follow Hydrogen companies and developments for about 15 years. It will take about 40 or 50 years, but maybe less long, to achieve a hydrogen economy. In 1990 Ralph Nader of the Green Party was one of the first to talk about the Hydrogen economy. I start a new thread here, because your thread and video is unique and deserves to be watched and to get replies for people who are interested in science, hydrogen and new energy.
In this thread I will share what I know from my Dutch perspective. Hydrogen based energy and economy will be part of sustainable energy in the near Future next to other sources of renewable energy like solar energy, wind energy and water energy. Denmark and Germany are countries in Europe which are very far developped in the sustainable energy or renewable energy sector.
This is an interview I did with a Hygear manager at a construction site where a hydrogen gas station will be built.

Hydrogen is the most common element in the universe and will be the main energy carrier in the future. HyET's goal is to improve the economy and chain efficiency of hydrogen conversion systems.
HYmove developped an new gas system for public bus transport, for hydrogen possibilities for electric trolly busses.

Pieter, John,
hydrogen-based energy is also developed in national laboratories in the US. Hydrogen is the most abundant, therefore the cheapest. I also read a Polish translation of the article in Science about hydrogen. They used a pressure which is higher than in the Earth's core, but they claim that they can keep hydrogen solid even after removing the pressure. Interesting, still a long way for a practical application.
