Hey, Jim... Your ancestors must have swooped in an arc out from Russia slowly over generations, of course. I am also AB+ and have begun checking with cousins as well. A genetist friend of mine, who is Polish-American, told me about the arc... I said Russia - probably more like whatever is now southeast of Poland...too tired to look tonight Nancy, thanks for the new folder I will get over to it tomorrow or Monday - hopefully will be able to explain it better. And meanwhile contact my friend to ask about references. GM

All of my family is from an area 150km norht west of Warszawa. I have traced them there to 1832 before that I don't know where they lived.

I am always impressed when I hear guy cooking and baking. But then most of the chefs are male.

I guess I became independent and remebered how my mother cooked. My wife is very ill with polymyositis and does not get around much anymore. I do the cooking, shopping etc.

Jim,
I had to look up that condition - it must be terribly frustrating for both of you.
But still, you could have turned to faster meals to prepare than all the delicious foods you have discussed. I think you must have the "cooking gene."

Nancy,
Sorry, I should have explained P-myositis, it's an auto immune disease. In my wife's case it attacked here muscles. Should couold only crawl for about 3 months. Then with predezone, kemo and IGIV she went in to remission. There is no cure. But the pills etc. gave her other problems. She has hereditery high blood pressure, cholesterol (900), yes, 900. Since 2000 until about August of this year she was ok. Now she has pain everywhere again. Can lift her arms etc. Dr say it's not the P-myositis. So she is on percaset (sp) etc for the pain. She is not in good health, its a family thing her sister has Lupus.

:)Monday morning Jim... Wow...you have more than two hands full...the "Percoset" is one of the opiates and in my experience is a terrible drug... but many times necessary. My Mom took lots of it for arthritis pain and my sister and I hated it when she took it. However, I can't speak for my sister, but apparently my Mom (now gone home) and I have a sensitivity to such drugs. I try to avoid them at all costs. But back to the cooking...when I read your post, I immediatedly thought... Jim cooks as a stress reliever! Sure and why not...you are generous and loving enough to care for your wife, so you are not out with the guys doing guy things. And the end result is far better for both of you than a low golf score I also love to cook...I like to think that since my children and their families are scattered, my friends are fortunate to receive our goodie bags I say our because my husband has a genetic form of a late (adult)-onset form of muscular dystrophy and I have somewhat arthritic hands. So...sometimes we divide the cooking, especially the preparation, between us...washing, chopping, grating, turning the food mill, etc. We love to grocery shop...it is an adventure for us, especially the produce section, to discover what's out there. When we travel, now he is confined to the U.S., we love to hit local farmers' and outdoor markets. Of course, our kids and their families love to come home and/or have us visit So, Jim...yes we will be thinking of you BTW, cooking is my joy; scrubbing floors and serious cleaning are my stress relievers. One can always tell by the condition of the house whether I am angry / stressed / etc. GM

But according to that scale, I must be extremely relaxed now.

GM,
I have multiple stress relievers. Cooking is one. Carving is another. Travel to Poland is another. I have two labs that train to the whistle and hand signals. I do martial arts as well. I never did the stereotypical guy stuff, don't play golf, don't watch baseball, not fond of beer except I do drink STRONG in Poland, don't work on cars.
Sounds like you have your hands full as well. Getting old is not for the weak.
