Jim, Thanks for telling us (especially me!) where that guy, Rob Strybel has his column. Someone at Bella, perhaps it was you Jim, suggested his cookbook Polish Heritage Cookery as a good place to find Torun Honey-Spice Cake (gingerbread)Old Polish Style recipes. I borrowed the book through interlibrary loan and it is a honey of a book Strybel (an American) wrote the book for the same reason I quit buying Polish cookbooks in English before his was written...they were all pretty much the same. Strybel's is unique...you'll have to get the book and read his story...he tells a lot about the history of the recipes and the foods of which they are made. I am going to request a copy for a Christmas present and feel it will eventually rank right up there with my first and current favorite Treasured Polish Recipes for Americsn by the ladies of the Polanie Club (Minneapolis, MN) which was first published in 1948.

GM, I have both of Rob's books and they are good. I also have the Polanie Club book. I may have bought it in '48' ; )) I have another one called Old Polish Traditions in the Kitchen and at the Table, Maria Lemnis. Publisher Interpress Warszawa1979. It was 60PLN. MOst of it is text and not specific recipes of the times and customs.
