The following is a subject that is unpleasant as of the truth that many would enjoy to dismiss. But to watch with understanding, is to learn the foundation that is of racism of today that exist in real life. If this subject is overly unpleasant to my friends here, it is a simple process to remove it. The reasoning of presentation, is not for amusement, but in that stead, to share an educational prospective of what most of us know, but perhaps to further understand the reasoning behind slavery as it pertained to Europe and the Americas.
Perhaps to add spice to the stew, it needs be noted of my own Viking ancestors captured by force on their raids, people that if not killed, were taken to be traded or used as slaves. These that were captured, were white but interesting enough, their descendants suffered not with racism at a later date in time.
In the video, will described the reasoning that stays to this time and day, why the African Black people are to carry this stigma of racism. There is a reason for every thing, and in this case, the reasoning is described.

Karl, life of slaves was hard or even impossible. Thanks for presenting. I remember watching so called crush course in history and when they started talking especially about slaves in Brazil who died in such an amount that they did not produce enought children to take on their job, it was hard to watch. Here is one of the epizodes, not sure that this one talks abourt Arfican history in Brasil that much, still good to watch:

Thank you for your thoughtful reply and video. Now of course we as reasonable people, look at the past history of slavery with bended brows for as how could African People be treated in such a manner? And of course, to use the tool of understanding, empathically. We know even though we do not agree with such cruelty to use human beings as draft animals.
The results though as above, is exactly what brought the land now known as Brazil as a nation conceived by the Portuguese as an economic measure. I remember some time in the past, you and John had visited Brazil and posted some of your adventures whilst there. It is a large land though, and as to travel north from the cities in to the back land, it becomes more and more premitive with farmers becoming less and less until in the areas of jungle land.
The land is being exploited though through logging and mining. With this, the rain forest is being gradually cut down and the land layed to wast from the spoils of exploitation. With this, is the wasteful farming methods of slash and burn for first clearing the land for crop use, then as the soil is not taken care of and becomes thin, that portion of land is left to the wild and erosion and the process is repeated further away.
Brazil though, is the only country in South America that is Portuguese speaking, the remainder speak their own brand of Spanish.

Pieter,
good video and follow up after Karl's post. I knew that Dutch were a marine power, but I did not realize that because of that they were the last one to abolish slavery among European nations. Life of a slave was terrible, especially in South America. I wish I knew more about Suriname and Guyana. We know about these countries very little. I met Indians from Guyana in New York. They told us that they were treated better than the original black residents of these countries. But we hear much more about Columbia and Venezuela than we ever hear about Suriname or both Guyanas.
Karl, have you ever been in this part of the world?

I do hate flying and it can be very rough air in that area over Columbia. My time was then limited with very little time to look about and meet with ever day people. Karl
