Yes Jeanne, it is a broad swipe, but as with a lot of generalizations ( I am not aware of a pole of pro-life people or of any official position being proclaimed in their name ) but I would expect "Stop shooting our kids" to have a universal appeal to all walks of life, pro gun and anti gun as well.
It is a protest against the perception that "stop shooting our kids" is exclusively a "liberal" idea.
Kaima,
Yes I agree with you here…no argument.
I guess my readiness to pass on the statement is due to disappointment at the pro-life people (note I do not say movement) to be equally pro-peace / anti-war, and support "every life matters" as well as "black lives matter". I do have such a friend, and I respect him for his consistency in position.
This is where I begin to disagree with you. If you are not addressing the organized pro-life movement, then who are these “pro-life people’ you mention? How do you know what pro-life people believe? Most pro-lifers I know, myself included, fit a similar profile to the friend you mentioned. Why do you equate pro-life people with those who use “’stop shooting our kids’ as a ‘liberal talking point’”?
I am disappointed there is not a movement to prevent future "optional wars". I would be angry if I gave up my legs for someone's optional war. Fighting for my country is another matter, and I performed well there.
Are you blaming pro-life people for failing to create this particular movement?
Between us, I say "stop shooting our kids" and you take that as an assault on "those who won't give up their guns"? I also don't wish to give up my guns.
I’m not sure what you are saying here. Perhaps you misunderstood my meaning. I did not take “stop shooting our kids” as an assault on those who would not give up their guns. I took your whole statement as an assault on people who are pro-life, pitting them against people who wish to address this problem of innumerable shootings with common sense solutions, when the majority of pro-life people are also on board with that goal.
But I do hope the kids across the country take he lead, as we "adults" have failed to even approach a solution or a discussion of what could be done.
Let the kids take over.
Agreed also on this last point.
p.s. I always know that when I respond to one of your posts that it will turn into an opportunity for a good debate…and I appreciate that!
