11-year-old Pole beaten up in BerlinA 11-year-old Polish boy has been beaten up in Berlin in what local police say was an incident motivated by xenophobia.Photo: Dickelbers [CC BY-SA 4.0 (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0)], from Wikimedia CommonsThe incident occurred on Sunday afternoon in the Neukölln borough of the German capital, where the 11-year-old Pole was playing with a friend a year his senior. At one point a group of teenagers, four boys and a girl, approached them. The teenagers began insulting and poking fun at the Polish boy, alluding to his country of origin, according to Polish Radio’s IAR news agency. When the accosted boy would not be provoked, two of the teenagers hit him in the face and ribs. The attackers fled before police arrived, according to IAR. The 11-year-old Pole suffered facial injuries and was taken to a local hospital, where he was provided with medical assistance on an outpatient basis, IAR reported. The case is being investigated as a xenophobic attack, the news agency said. (gs/pk) Source: IAR tags: attack, Berlin, xenophobia

This is much too bad, and hopefully the young man will recover with out scaring. With this, hopefully the Polizei will obtain a lead for an arrest on those hoodlums.
Neukölln is one of the areas I have always enjoyed to spend a little time in. It is a nice place to drink a beer on a hot day, or simply just set at one of the many nice cafes out side to eat lunch and just people watch.

Pieter, Karl,
it is strange how these guys even knew that he was Polish.... Poles look just like Germans. Maybe they knew him from the neighborhood. It is good that he is going to be OK and that the incident is investigated.
