""Can you give examples of words which are the most difficult, not only for you to write but for an average American too??""
I can only speak for myself...if you give me a few hours, I could probably generate a small list.
Recieve is one word....I have to remember to switch the i and the e around. (I after E except after C is one way to remember this-but I don't think about that when writing.)
Insignificant-meaning less than-
probaly -probably-most likely
Althiemer's-there's a "z" in that word somewhere-All Timer's disease(CRS-can't remember stuff)
appripo-
appropriate- that word looks funny spelled that way.
I know it's a matter of sounding the word out and their syllables. One thing that has helped me over the years is doing crossword puzzles. Not only does it keep the brain busy and sharp, it also helps one discover new words with out reading the dictionary. I usually do the "simple" crossword books, because sometimes I have brain "farts" and forget words.
...another set of puzzles that are helpful are Logic Problems. They teach one how to sort out facts correctly.
When I am really bored, I play word games. Taking each letter of the alphabet-such as "A" - I will list vegetables/fruits or cities or names that start with A, then B, all the way thru the alphabet. If I'm still bored, I list all the states in the country and then think of cities in that state. I have never learned all the state capital cities yet.

Sometimes its not so much the spelling of the word but our fingers go faster than our brain (or is that vice versa) . So spell check comes in handy as my believe is if it is available use it. (but I am in a hurry and then if I don't check spelling see I have made a dumb typo which I hate.. ..thank God for the modify button...some forums don't have this option and then you must live with it forever) The old cliche of first impressions along with seeing words spelled correctly for the appearance and overall of the forum. (it also corrects the grammar usage) Lately for some reason every time I type just it is jsut....am I becoming dyslexic. (or did someone switch my a & s key...LOL on my keyboard. (we pulled that prank on someone at work once not those specific letters might have been their numbers and when you are working in accounting...uh oh!!!!)

Ohhh that's a dirty deed-re-arranging the keyboard letters...the last time I took the letters off the keyboard-to clean it and brush out the crumbs of the morning's toast, well I never got all the keys back in right. I think I destroyed the keyboard...you learn by your mistakes right? When I see a trail of ants marching towards the keyboard, I'll know when it's time to clean it again. ;D

Hmmm, I smell a conspiracy here with you ladies Yes, I touch type, and my key board was/is German. We have a few extra keys for our language. Now, this will keep you in suspence, Mon-Fr. are my work time week. I switch from German to English and then, must revert back to my language. What this accounts to is this= what was of brown hair, is quickly become to grey!!! For a nice break, I switch for a few minutes of nice repose to calm out my brain cells to this forum. What ever, or how ever, I complete my work by 12.00. The lovely instance of reality versus electronic communication and the work place. In the stead of commuting by auto with the darn congestion of irritation of zillion other folks attempting to occupy the same space at the same time of a given object. I may simply open up my computer, log in for my time, and complete my work. But, my work must be completed! What is not commensurate: is this: if I am a genius, then why am I still working at my age? ? Charles

For it is to your self the honour needs be. For you are in charge of fresh new minds that need your teaching and training. For they are the new Poland, for these are the new people of the new world they well inherit. For yours, the responsibility is immense. Yes, Pawian, yours is the important work. For my self, I have only my self for blame in case of failure, for this end, I must insure I do not fail. Charles

Joyce,
Too late, what little he had, are long gone, but not due to overwork. Do you remember when they told your brother, if he did not stop he would go blind, in Charles, it caused him loss of any brain.

Valpo ...I am still wondering what happened to yours. These nasty remarks of yours constantly are not appreciated by anyone except maybe yourself and they don't have a place on this forum for it and should not be tolerated.

Charles,
Do my jokes on you, bother you? If they do, and you don't like them, I could stop. Let me know.

Charles, Do my jokes on you, bother you? If they do, and you don't like them, I could stop. Let me know. Michael Dabrowski Michael, your jokes on Charles bother many people. Please, stop attacking Charles for his origin. Otherwise we will have to take a disciplinary action. Can you promise not to direct anymore posts towards Charles for a month? I am very serious about it. I would also suggest that instead of writing dozens of posts every day with one sentence in each post - just concentrate on the topic people are discussing, try to think and then reply with a bit more indepth analysis if you can.

Just John and Generation 3
You are both correct with the English rule of I before E, except after C (but there are exceptions to this rule - that part ends the 'rule') - can't think at the moment what they are but I can assure you there are some.
