New York City 1900 In Color
A Trip Through New York City, 1911
Old film of New York City in the year 1911. Print has survived in mint condition. Slowed down footage to a natural rate and added in sound for ambiance. This film was taken by the Swedish company Svenska Biografteatern on a trip to America. It’s so strange to watch this film and realized that every single person in it, is no longer alive, and strangers 100 years later are watching them from a devices they have never seen before, called “computers” and “smart phones”.

J.J.
A very interesting presentation of 1911 New York. I have never had the pleasure to visit this great city, but perhaps some future time..
It is a pleasure to see how well people dressed at that time, for the lovely ladies all looked nice with a hat to complete their attire. The fellows look equally as well with both a bowler and straw hat to also complete their attire.
With such a large number of horse and buggy/wagon use, the streets are very clean {horses poop}. The city is very well organized with both surface and over head public transportation. The harbour though, is very crowded and interesting enough, to see one of the ships using a rocking beam steam engine for power.
Thank you for presenting...

John, I agree with Karl, the film with adjusted speed and added sound is so real and brings us back to these times. Everybody looks dressed, but some suits look old and I wonder why people needed all these hats and umbrellas. I wonder whether any of these people on the picture could be alive today. There seem to be quite a traffic, no legal crosswalks but somehow no accidents.
I liked this car driven by a joyful black man for a white family with a young girl in front..... maybe she is still alive?
I watched also the colored pictures together. It is an amazing collection
