I realize that only Latino people in the US are interested, still this is a big event and Poland also qualified. They had some amazing games already - Russia won against Saudi Arabia 5:0 and also a good game between Spain and Portugal: 3:3
here are just some fragments of inauguration - in Spanish since Latinos, Spanish etc... are the most involved in the football:

Poland lost against Senegal. It is sad for Poland, I wish Senegal did win against any other team except Poland..... here is a commentary from Washington Post that Senegal is becoming an example for the whole Africa: www.washingtonpost.com/news/soccer-insider/wp/2018/06/19/poland-vs-senegal-2018-world-cup/?utm_term=.5484b2d79f92MOSCOW — Nigeria lost its opening match. As did Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia. And so a continent yearning for an early statement at this World Cup — and a long-promised rush deep in soccer’s ultimate competition after decades of underachievement — rested its last hope Tuesday on a team known as the Lions of Teranga. Teranga means hospitality in the Wolof language, but in a broader sense, the word represents Senegalese character and pride. Sixteen years had passed since the Lions last strode onto the global stage and, like they did in South Korea and Japan, they filled the soccer-loving hearts of Africa — and particularly those in the western region — with a stirring introduction. This 2-1 victory over Poland will not send tremors through the soccer world like their 2002 upset of reigning champion France. But it was a surprise against Group H’s dubious top seed and threw the foursome into chaos: Senegal and Japan top the group, not Poland and 2014 quarterfinalist Colombia. “Senegal today represents the whole of the African continent,” said Coach Aliou Cisse, 42, who captained the upset of France in Seoul. “We are Senegal. We do represent our country, but we can also guarantee that the whole of Africa is supporting our Senegal national team. I get phone calls from everywhere. People do believe in our team and they’re proud.” The Lions scored on an own goal in the 37th minute and, during a fortuitous sequence in the second half, a player reentering after injury pounced on a flawed back pass to score into an empty net. Grzegorz Krychowiak’s 86th-minute header offered fleeting hope for Poland, but the better team prevailed before a spirited audience that included Senegalese President Macky Sall. Moments after it ended, the Lions marched toward a cluster of supporters dressed in colorful outfits and led a synchronized celebration, complete with dancing and broad smiles. It wasn’t quite Iceland’s Viking Clap salute, but it was a pure moment of fan-player unity for a blossoming tournament darling.

Most appreciated with your introduction of these sports, I am sorry of little attention. It is not that I do not care, simply just complete attention to work with a brake to clear my mind with the forum.
It would appear to be both music/art and sports that are universal in our world of people.
Please do not become discouraged with apparant lack of attention, for I am confident, many eyes are seeing what you have presented...

Karl,
Mexico is doing good. How are people reacting? Do you know that in the first game against Germany, when Mexico shot a goal there was a small earthquake detected due to people jumping up?

Jaga I am not surprised to know of a earth tremor caused by fans enthusiasm, they certainly do cheer. It would be interesting to know with technology how much energy these fans produce that is lost in to the air. Foot ball is very popular in Mexico as a favoured sport and not lost in conversations during the season. Karl

Karl, you have much more games to go for Mexico and Germany. Poland lost badly yesterday, although we were trying - against Columbia. There are many negative comments about what did happen.

Jaga Although I was not to watch the game, the talk around the coffee pot was very descriptive. European teams are very good, but it needs be considered, foot ball has been around a very long time in Mexico and for that matter, South America. These teams are not only aggressive, but very well trained. Perhaps my self am simplistic to say this, but in sports, is to not always win, but to play well and be admired. I think Poland did just that, and there is always the next time. What is important is not to think to lose as failure, but an opportunity to learn from the experience and later apply that lesson to be better put to use the next round. Perhaps the following would best describe the game as you had watched it: sputniknews.com/kazan-worldcup-2018/201806251065742704-fifa-poland-columbia-defeat-knockout/Karl

Pieter,
thanks for being lenient towards Poles. I wish we had an ability - like Germans do, to turn the game around in the last minute. It seems that after we lose the first goal, we usually lose the whole game. Yes, the couch and the players were apologetic. We expect Poland do better, since they played well in Euro-2016, but many players had medical problems during the last 2 years. The only schadenfraude - Russia lost to Uruguay on their own stadion 3:0 also, but they advanced to the next round since they won two previous games. So Latino teams are doing still well.

Jaga I realize this is between your self and Pieter, but so, please both of you perhaps be lenient to my intrusion. Not always, but perhaps more so then would be thought, I think it would confidence. That what I expect happened with the Polish teams as you have described, is not only a loss of confidence upon the first loss, but the focus of only one thing, and that is becoming sharper/quicker and, best of all, being a team and focus on team work..Make the opposite team run and run and run with out results, for with team work, the ball is yours. But this can only be accomplished if the Polish team, works together in organized team work.. For a couch to apologize is embarrassing, for he then is admitting to inadequately training of his team. For he has failed his work in training a winning team and should be replaced. But, in sports, only one team will win. Karl

Karl
thanks for your kind words. Polish team does not have any confidence. It worries me also, they are mentally broken. Referring to the couch, he jut took the responsibility into his shoulders which was a fair think to do. German team did not do much better also.

Jaga,
At least the Poles participated in the world cup. The Duch were so weak that they didn't even were present. Your words about the past reminds me of my own words about the Duch team in previous world cups and European championships. Were are toughened in disapointments and frustration about our national team. Silently I was pro-Poland this year.
Cheers, Pieter

Pieter, yes, the world stage is much less stable than in the past, like everything - it is just a changing landscape. Italy and Netherlands - both did not qualify. We may have some Schadenfreude from what happened to Germans. Jaga, At least the Poles participated in the world cup. The Duch were so weak that they didn't even were present.
