Dutch police arrest seven men, say they foiled a major terrorist attackDutch police said on Thursday evening they believe they have foiled a major terrorist attack in the Netherlands with the arrest of seven men in Arnhem and Weert.
The men range in age from 21 to 34 and three of them, including the ringleader, have previous convictions for attempting to join IS in Syria, the public prosecution department said.
The department began an investigation into the 34-year-old man they suspect to have led the cell in April, following a tip-off from the AIVD security service. The AIVD said the man, an Iraqi national, had been planning an attack at a major event in the Netherlands with the aim of creating as many victims as possible.
‘The plan may have involved jackets packed with explosives and Kalashnikovs at an event and a car bomb elsewhere. The investigation into the exact target is still ongoing,’ the public prosecution department said.
‘The suspects were looking for AK47s, hand guns, hand grenades, suicide jackets and the ingredients for a car bomb,’ the department said. ‘They had also been looking for training in the use of guns and the suicide jackets.’
The investigation picked up quickly this month because the suspects’ preparations were becoming more advanced, the department said.
The public prosecution department says it is convinced that a terrorist attack has been averted due to the arrests. The threat level in the Netherlands remains ‘substantial’, one below the maximum risk level.
The seven men, who are being held in isolation and only have contact with their lawyer, will appear in court on Friday for a remand hearing.House searching in Vlaardingen a town West of Rotterdam near Hook of Holland at the North Sea and The Hague

www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-45673221Special News Report yesterday eveningtime.com/5409423/netherlands-arrest-plotting-major-attack/See Time video large Duch special police forces in action! The Times Report(THE HAGUE, Netherlands) — Seven men were arrested Thursday in the Netherlands on suspicion of plotting a large-scale extremist attack that Dutch prosecutors said they think was foiled following a months-long investigation. The national prosecutor’s office said in a statement that heavily armed police arrested the men in the towns of Arnhem, about 100 kilometers (62 miles) south of Amsterdam, and Weert in the southern Netherlands close to the borders of Germany and Belgium. The investigation was launched by intelligence suggesting the alleged ring leader, a 34-year-old man of Iraqi heritage, wanted to carry out an attack at the site of a large event and cause multiple casualties, according to the statement. The suspects allegedly wanted to use bomb vests and assault rifles to do harm at the event, and planned to detonate a car bomb at another location, prosecutors said. An investigation of potential targets was continuing. Prosecutors said the suspects ranged in age from 21 to 34. Three of them, including the 34-year-old Iraqi, were previously convicted of attempting to travel overseas to join extremist networks. The men were attempting to obtain AK47 assault rifles, handguns, bomb vests, grenades and raw materials for bombs and were looking for opportunities to train with such weapons, according to the statement. Prosecutors said that the investigation sped up this month because of the suspects’ “ advanced preparations.” Minister for Justice and Security Ferd Grapperhaus told Dutch national broadcaster NOS that police acted in time to prevent an attack. Minister for Justice and Security Ferd Grapperhaus“ In a sense it is serious, but luckily it’s also good news – a terrorist cell that was plotting an attack has been taken down,” Grapperhaus said. “ They weren’t so far that it was a danger to society, in the sense that it was nearly too late. But they were quite far in their preparations.” The men were to be brought before an investigating judge on Friday at a behind-closed-doors hearing. The arrests came weeks after a 19-year-old Afghan citizen living in Germany allegedly stabbed two American tourists at Amsterdam’s main railway station in what prosecutors described as an attack with an extremist motive. The Dutch anti-terror coordinator’s office said in a tweet Thursday that the allegedly foiled plot fit the current threat profile for the Netherlands, which is at four on a scale that tops out at five. The office did not raise the level following the arrests. “ Jihad networks are also active in the Netherlands with the intention to plot attacks in Europe,” the office said. “ Today’s arrests must be seen in that light.”

This bring back memories with me with the last large anti-terror action in Arnhem by special police forces last year in 2017.
I heard police a helicopter for hours yesterday searching and heard a lot of sirenes. I am ill at home and that's why I could spend that much time at certain topics on the Forum. On my I- pad in my bed. That's why I missed this news yesterday. Now I know what the noise was!

Pieter
A fine job with your intelligence service to detect and provide the pertinent information to the proper police services to carry out this successful operation. For each operation such as this example provides more information that is better then the best training.
The tricker the opposition, the better learnt for detection and arrest of these idiots. For it is a fools dream to think these individuals will be the last.

New police actions and arrests today in the Netherlands in the cities and towns of Utrecht, Tiel, Vianen and Nieuwegein.
Heavily armed police officers and arrest teams entered apartments of suspects. The police searched in 8 homes and arrested 7 people. The police officer could say nothing to my colleagues of RTV-Utrecht about the police investigation because that is confidential during this proces. He could only say that it is an ongoing investigation. We had to act fast, for the safety for civilians and the safety of our own police officers. The police officer couldn't say if these arrests were connected to the anti-terror operation of last week or if this is about the Moroccan mafia (gangsters) in the Netherlands.
It was not a normal operation, but a high risk operation with special police forces in cooperation with the 'normal' police.

Martin Kok in better days when he was still alive and a crime investigating journalistThe police searches in the Netherlands yesterday were probably a large national police action against the Moroccan Mafia (Moroccan organised crime/Gangsters) who were involved into the liquidation of Martin Kok ( Edam, 25 juni 1967 – Laren, 8 december 2016) a Dutch criminal, websitecolumnist and crime reporter who went to far and was to fearless in his reports about people from the Dutch criminal Underworld, who didn't like his attention. In 2015 shots were fired at Koks car and home en and in 2016 a bomb was placed under his car, whom was defused. On 8 december 2016 there was another attempt on his life, this time successful. Martin Kok was riddled with bullets in his car on the parking lot of sexclub Boccaccio in Laren, a town and municipality in the province of North Holland, Netherlands. Martin Kok was killed.
