My self was not sure rather to add this to one of Pieters presentation with possible risk of spoiling. In the manner of unsure, it is usually best not to risk by chance.
The following is in the language of German, sorry. Perhaps if not to understand, the body language and attached action may well tell the story. It is the life of a civil police officer on his duty day. Police in most western states, operate very simular in protection protection of life and property/investigation of reports and crimes, enforcement of the laws of the land. This officer of the past DDR is little different.

This is how I remember them Karl when we were halted on the East-German highway once in one of their divizenfälle.

Pieter
Thank you for sharing your rememberance of those travels with your family in those days. I was thinking of you whilst presenting with hopes you would respond with your rememberance of those times.
The officer shown interviewing the occupants of the vehicle was quite plainly placing his questions in such a manner to elicit an incriminating response from both the man and women.
But, it must be a terribly boring job standing all day facing a multitude of crossing visitors and asking the same questions over and over. With this, after hearing time and again the responses until after a time to classify them as valid/fear laced/same thing heard so many times as heard some million times.
