German police step up security at airports in southwestBy THE ASSOCIATED PRESS BERLIN — Dec 20, 2018, 12:40 PM ETPolice stepped up security at airports in southwestern Germany on Thursday, amid concerns that extremists may have tried to scope out operations at Stuttgart airport.
German news agency dpa and public broadcaster SWR reported that security officials are investigating four people, including at least one with possible ties to the Islamist scene.
In a tweet, federal police said flights shouldn't be affected by the "robust" police presence at Stuttgart airport. Additional officers were also deployed to other, smaller airports in Baden-Wuerttemberg state — Friedrichshafen, Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden and Mannheim — as a precaution.
SWR reported that two of the suspects, a father and son, were spotted taking pictures at France's Charles de Gaulle airport near Paris last week.
Last week, a gunman killed five people in an attack on a Christmas market in the French city of Strasbourg, just across the border from Germany. The suspected gunman, 29-year-old Cherif Chekatt, died in a shootout with police two days after the Dec. 11 attack. Chekatt had been on a French intelligence watch list for radicalism and was convicted 27 times for criminal offenses in France, Germany and Switzerland.
Separately, German authorities said they arrested two men and a woman in southwestern Germany on Wednesday on suspicion of illegal firearms ownership and preparing an attack. Karlsruhe prosecutors said police seized a fully automatic weapon and ammunition in the raid, but that there was no indication of a link to the security alert at the nearby airports.

Pieter This is how a good programme is operated. For it is for both officers and public safety alike as should be. Not only for a show of force, but as a ready need tactical force. The Lady officer Polizei is very attractive, and I may say, very dangerous if taken lightly in a tactical situation. Her weapon is a H-K MP5 Maschinenpistole MP 5, these are 9mm with what appears to be a 30 round magazine. These things are also capable of refitting for use with 22 cal. ammunition for training. www.heckler-koch.com/en/products/military/submachine-guns/mp5/overview.htmlAs personal noten, my self have trained with both the Uzi and the H/K MP5, both were easy to handle and accurate. I simply would not want to be in a position to have to use either one in a tactical situation, as it stands at present, this should not be a concern unless our known world simply goes beyond crazy. Karl,
We did a tv item about a radical imam yesterday and today a young female internship her life was threatened, just because she did the voice over of the interview and therefor she was threatened by an islamist who phoned our broadcast corporation. Sadly she answered the phone and the fellow immediately started threatening her, that he would finish her. Two police officers came to the station for a serious conversation with my tv boss about the threats, whom the Arnhem police took very seriously. This is the reality we live in in North-Western Europe. Every criticism or news report about Muslims, radical imams or groups may lead to reactions. It was an anonymous caller, but the impact was quite harsh for the pour young 19 years old lady.
This was the video which enraged the caller:
Cheers, Pieter

Pieter
I am very sorry for this young lady to receive such a threat. I do hope with trust the station and responding police do in the manner to relieve her of the stress of such threat.
It really shows in the manner of this Islamic person to call in a threat in the stead of showing courage and responsibility of in that stead, to show up in person. For what he was to conduct, was the cowards way out. In short, all mouth and no action, which is good...
