I am reading the book by Wankowicz, Polish famous journalist and traveller written before WW II about his visit in lakes of Mazuren
This region has such a complex history due to Baltic Prussians and then Teutonic nights, so you may enjoy - in is in German
Masuren - Eine Reise durch Ostpreußens verwunschenen Süden (Teil 1/4)

Thank you most kindly for your sensative nature, it was interesting to say the least to view the video presentations of a tour guide as if being led about such historic areas he describes. It is easy to understand their view of this area being the haunted South. For as you fore mentioned, it is an area of much history and I may say, very beautiful.
In the first, my understanding of Preußen was the military form as in training my father had been subject to as once described by Auntie. This then was a new word world for my self to learn of in those days.
Thank you
Karl

Hello Karl,
the world is very complex. Germany and Prussia left a heritage of beautiful Teutonic castles and the canals; still I am glad that the Lake area is free from any type of militarism. In the spirit of EU - Germans and Poles can spend their beautiful vacations - sailings through the beautiful Mazurian Lakes
