The Rev. Rafal Jarosiewicz called the burning of objects thought to be connected to magic and the occult, and deemed by their owners to be an evil force, “unfortunate.” He published the apology late Tuesday on the Facebook page of a foundation he founded. Jarosiewicz and other priests have drawn criticism for burning books, Buddhist figurines, an African mask, and other items Sunday outside a Catholic church in the city of Gdansk. They said they encouraged parishioners to bring in things that disturbed them so the priests could do away with bad influences.

P.S. If we burn anything, then it should be priests and politicians who abuse children - they should be burned at the stake. Kai

Jaga,
I thought exactly the same Jaga, I thought about the book burnings in Germany in 1933 on instignation of the Nazi propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels. In 1823, the German poet Heinrich Heine wrote the words, "Dort wo man Bücher verbrennt, verbrennt man auch am Ende Menschen," or "Where books are burned, in the end, people will also be burned." More than a century later in 1933, young Nazi students in Germany organized a nationwide book burning to eliminate foreign influence. Amongst the books that were burned in nazi Germany were also many books of German jewish authors and European Jewish authors who wrote in German like the Czech Franz Kafka, and books of German authors who were not Nazi. As this quote eerily predicted, the mass murder of Jews in the Holocaust soon followed.Cheers, Pieter
