Germany: Lubcke murder suspect became right-wing extremist in 1980s says intel agency bossThe head of Germany's Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV), Thomas Haldenwang, said that the man suspected of murdering CDU politician Walter Lubcke, "begun a career in right-wing extremism in the late 80s," while speaking at a press conference in Berlin on Tuesday.
The suspect has "since then has been part of the right wing extremist sphere, has conducted right extreme motivated crimes and therefore he has been on the radar of the intelligence services since this time frame," Haldenwang added.
German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer emphasised that "We have to take right wing extremism, we have to take anti-semitism very, very damned seriously."
"It is about an attack against all of us, against this liberal state. This is a new quality and some have already commented on it - it is about the protection of freedom," Seehofer added.
Lubcke, the head of the regional council in the central city of Kassel, was found lying on the terrace of his home in Istha on June 2, and announced dead two hours later.
According to the autopsy, Lubcke was killed by a bullet shot at close range. The 65-year old had reportedly been receiving death threats, in a possible interrelation with his pro-migrant views.
On Saturday, special police units arrested a 45-year-old man in relation to the killing in Kassel.
The head of Germany's Federal Criminal Police Office, Holger Muench, confirmed that "The weapon used in the crime hasn't been found yet. No gun has been found during the investigation, therefore the investigation continues."

what a sad story! I thought these things do not happen anymore in Western Europe.
+++German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer emphasised that "We have to take right wing extremism, we have to take anti-semitism very, very damned seriously."+++ does this act has to do with anti-semitism or just right-wing extremism? I don't like to list lots of things in the same sentence

Unfortunately they do, Jaga, this is not the first one and if fear it won't be the last one. The heated, polarised climate creates hate, fanatism and radicalism on both the right and the left side. This murder comes close Karl. Germany is in my feeling a few miles away. I can drive (n a car) to Germany in less than an hour. Political assassinations, political tension, political extremism, hatred, aversion, fanatism and violence are close by around the corner. I have seen the impact of the terrorist attack on the home of Labour state secretary Aad Kosto who was State Secretary for Justice, dealing with issues regarding migrants, prevention of criminality, gambling and youth protection until 27 May 1994. His house was destroyed by an explosion caused by a bomb on 13 November 1991. The attack was performed by the Revolutionary Anti-Racist Action. Aad Kosto's house in 1994On 6 May 2002, at age 54, Pim Fortuyn was assassinated by gunshot in Hilversum, North Holland, by environmental and animal rights activist Volkert van der Graaf. Film director Theo van Gogh was shot with a HS2000 and stabbed by the Moroccan-Dutch Islamic terrorist Mohammed Bouyeri while cycling to work on 2 November 2004 at about 9 o'clock in the morning. The Dutch politician of the social Democrats 66 Els Borst was murdered in 2014 in the garage at her home in the town Bilthoven in Utrecht province by Bart van U. Borst died from forty-one stab wounds to her head, neck and hands. Bart van U confessed to having killed Borst because divine inspiration told him to do so, holding her responsible for the Dutch policy on euthanasia.

Pieter
It is most unfortunant of Herr Walter Lübcke, and Germany has lost a son. It is very deplorable to say, but personal safety of politicians is a matter of care, planning and professional protection. It is good of our respective laws and constitutional protection to all, but unfortunantly all will include the unsavioury individuals that are part of our respective population.
We are at present living through unclear situations caused for the most part both stemming from a very large incursion of uninvited refuge people from Syria and areas caught up in that war. With this, very unsettling daily news of possible war between Iran and The USA, which would in self drag us in to that mess. With this, the daily news issues in international trade war between the USA and China as with other issues dealing with right wing extremist.
People are becoming very safety counscience for them selves and their families with the sudden onslaught of private purchases of guns.
These situations usually are of several faults, but one glaring fault, is the lack of effective leadership withen our central and regional Government {German}. People need the words of leadership that they {People} are safe and then the plan how to make the programmes work, given to them. People need to see their Governement in action such as shown and spoken on national Television stations dedicated to this by at least a weekly hours programme.
I realize very few people would wish to hear this, but this was a method used very well by the late Adolf Hitler, he communicated with the people for the reason he needed their cooperation for his programmes..And, he did have TV in his time.e

Jaga I do agree with you very much so, but Herr Hitler was Austrian {Österreich and not German}, he was an imposter from a foreign state and should not have been in the German Government. Karl You have asked of the accent used by Austrian Hitler. What I see of his speaking is very harsh in wording with some accent with again harsh diction. The man was in the German military and with this his time in Bavaria with their brand of Southern German speaking. It differs from our North Western German of Hamburg/Cuxhaven in dialect. My self am not very good in languages but Austrian differs from standard German that we know. Of course very much is to the individual speaker, but Austrian as Viennese spoken, has different phrases and dialect words that we must think a bit to understand. I do hope this perhaps sheds some light upon your question. I do try to be fair with the subject of Austrians as people. For the matter of some years back, whilst crossing their border on my motorcycle, once the border police gave notice of my number plate being of Hamburg, their treatment of my self was not exactly nice.
