This is how an North-West European forest sounds in the border time zone between autumn and winter. The wet could of the North Western winter. The Veluwe forests near Arnhem in the North sound like this.
A lot of rain and fog/mist in which the cold penetrates your body, legs and arms. Worse than dry cold with freezing and snow. Snow isolates.

In Dutch mythology and legends, the Witte Wieven (also known as Wittewijven) are spirits of "wise women" (or else elven beings) that live in the woods come out with this weather. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Witte_Wieven
