Pieter, I am sorry that I did not post anything earlier in this thread, but Polish and American mass media did not comment about it. Now, I found information on FoxNews. I agree that the environmental standards seem to be irrational, although this comment about eating bugs probably goes too far: crooksandliars.com/2022/07/eating-bugs-our-future-fox-jumps-far-right

Jaga,
The world is divided in continents, Icelands, Peninsula and Oceans. Not all news from Europe reaches the USA and not all American news reaches Europe. Continental, regional, Federal and national (state) interests differ. It is logical when for instance Dutch evenst are not interesting for US citizens if it not directly affects them. The same thing about the USA. I am interested in the USA and certain states and national parks and cities in the US for instance, but there are Dutch people or other Europeans with little interest in the USA. They live and work in the Netherlands and go on holiday in other European nations or islands. So it depends from who you are, what background you have and maybe what profession in what you are interested.
For instance due to people on this Forum and Polish American family I am and was interested in Idaho, Texas, Alaska, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, New York State, Florida, Wisconsin, Illiniois and Pensylvenia. Due to my visit of the West coast I have fond memories of California, Arizona, Nevada and Utah. I heard good stories about Oregon (Portland) and Washington State (Seatlle). Personal connections, stories of people you remember, a movie, a beautiful Magazine, a documentary, the work of a photographer, art photo books and photo journalism books (Magnum and Live) and the limited news that reaches me.
Once measures are taken against American or Canadian farmers it will reach Fox News, CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC and PBS.
Cheers, Pieter

It is with good hope and trust this situation will have found a solution at least in the very near future. If not of the previous, once food shelves begin to be empty, it will appear as the Government will be importing food from across the Eastern border from the farm lands across from Kiel Germany. These entire areas were very rich farm lands when my self was working in the harvest there, that was then, and I tend to believe not much has changed since then.

Hello Pieter, yes, it is true that we all pick and choose what is of interest to us. I also want to know more about Netherlands since this is your home. I am glad you keep us updated. Jaga,

With response to the video of: Let this little Hitler Veggies Nazi Asskicking Dutch. This little farmer fellow knows how to kick in the face of the left wingers with reality. People need to eat, they have not the means to eat houses, and food is what farmers create through their work.
Farmers are a tough lot for they must in their daily working life, deal with not just the rising cost of machinery, fuel and labour when needed, the weather that constantly changes and not to their liking. With all of this, the farmers need to make enough to live on and raise their families.
Now, at present, the farmers with all they must contend with as above, must face off with regulations that are meant to put them out of business. Yes, of course, these regulations are designed on the face of it, to protect the environment, but just simply following the money trail tells a different story for paving the way for developers who are simply waiting in the wings for the environmental people to do their work with removing the farmers off the land.
It takes land mass for successful farming and once this is replaced with homes, homes mean more people, and more people have to eat more food, so what then, so there we go on the merry go round to no where.

Pieter, I watched the farmer's video and he was quite reasonable. It is hard to understand why farmers would be so limited in their quotas. It really sounds like communism and there is some unhuman bureacracy in it.

Jaga,
I agree with you and I am in a sort of split between the farmers position, the governments position and the civilian position who need food security. Farming and farmers are an important part of our heritage. Civilizations were build from or on farming communities which expanded. Our food industry and food export is an important part of our economy. Unilever, Campina, Friese Flag and Dutch grain, Maize, Sugar beet, Potato and meet (Pig, cow, sheep) export is huge, and next to that also chickens, flowers, all kind of vegetables and etc.

Sicco Mansholt the farmer
Sicco Leendert Mansholt (13 September 1908 – 29 June 1995) a Dutch farmer, politician and diplomat of the Social Democratic Workers' Party (SDAP) and later the Labour Party (PvdA), who served as the President of the European Commission from 1 March 1972 until 5 January 1973, played an important part in the creation of the present day European Union agricultural situation.
He was a member of six cabinets in total: Schermerhorn-Drees in 1945; Beel in 1946; Drees-Van Schaik in 1948, and the three Drees administrations: 1951, 1952 and 1956. As Minister of Agriculture during this time, he was one of the key architects of the EC's Common Agricultural Policy. In 1954 the parliamentary debate about the budget for the Department of Agriculture was postponed: the Minister was ice-skating the 200 kilometer long Elfstedentocht in the Dutch province of Friesland, which he skated twice in his life.
In 1958, he became one of the Commissioners of the new European Commission. He was Commissioner for Agriculture and vice-president of the institution. He modernized European agriculture. The Mansholt Plan was opposed by E. F. Schumacher in his book Small Is Beautiful.
He became President of the European Commission on 22 March 1972 (the Mansholt Commission) and continued in that position until 5 January 1973. It was around that time he was heavily under the influence of the Club of Rome. Sicco MansholtSicco Leendert Mansholt (ur. 13 września 1908 r. w Ulrum, Groningen, zm. 29 czerwca 1995 w Wapserveen, Drenthe) – holenderski polityk, Przewodniczący Komisji Europejskiej (1972–1973) oraz Europejski Komisarz ds. Rolnictwa i Rozwoju Wsi (1958–1972).
Niezadowolony z systemu kolonialnego powrócił do Holandii w 1936.
W 1958 został jednym z Komisarzy Europejskich nowej Komisji Europejskiej. Był Komisarzem ds. Rolnictwa, modernizacji europejskiego rolnictwa oraz wiceprezydentem organizacji. Prezydentem Komisji Europejskiej został w 22 marca 1972 (Komisja Mansholta) i pełnił tę funkcję do 5 stycznia 1973.
Żonę, Henny J. Postel poślubił w 1938, mieli dwóch synów i dwie córki.

I thought about Sicco Mansholt when you said it sounds like communism. Mansholt was fascinated by Soviet Sovkhoz and Kolkhoz collective farming and farms. He wanted a West-European version of that and was a real 'socialist; in that, but his realistic pragmatic farmers side knew it wouldn't work in Western Europe so he changed his plan. Due to his policies small farms disappeared and large farm companies and farms started dominating Dutch farming.
