Hello My name is Chet and I am new to this place. I didn't know where to start so I am starting here. I am hoping to join a group and have a chance to talk to anyone about everything Polish. . Was born and raised in Chicago(1953) but now live in Colorado(since 1978). Mom and Dad were both born in Poland and came to the US after the war. Dad recently passed away but was living in Opele after he retired. Mom had a Polish resturant in Chicago for over 35 years until she retired. I work for the Federal Government (NOAA) and have 2 children (13 & 34) I would like to see if anyone knows about the legend of Madej's bed? Since this is my last name and I have heard rumors of this being some kind of bandit in Poland. Thanks Chet (Czeslaw) Hi Chet - Czesław, the legend of Madej's bed is about a robber who lived in forests covering Saint Cross Mountains (Góry Świętokrzyskie) in Central Poland. The guy was really mean, he killed his father. By chance he has learned his future - eternal life in hell on the torture bed (Madej's bed or Madejowe loze). He changed his life and instead of robbing travellers on their way between Warsaw and Cracow in Góry Świetokrzyskie, he started to help the poor and became a pious person. Welcome to the forum. I am Polish and living in Poland, seven years younger than you. I have been several times to your country due to my work on the university but always wished to come back

one more thing - the name 'Madej' is quite popular in Poland, I know personally two persons with this name, and they are not members of the same family.

Hi everyone, My name is Mary and am almost embarassed to post my little bio here. You are all so very well educated. Not to mention well traveled. I am 55 years old and have spent all of my life in the same town where I was born and raised. A little town outside of Scranton, Pa. called Taylor. I married a local boy and have one son Joshua, age 15 who is the light of my life. I am President of our high schools PTA for 2yrs but have been actively involved in PTA since my son started school. I am an avid reader, love sci-fi and have a special interest in WWII since my dad was a vet . I recently found relatives of my fathers in Poland. They live on the same farm where my Bobci was born and raised. They are her sisters sons and their families. Since most of my immediate family in the US have passed on, I am thrilled to have found an extended family. Is anyone here familiar with the Kurpie region. I would love to get some info on it.

Mary, my name is Dimitri. I saw your post. My maternal grandmothers maiden name is Parylo. She was married in Olyphant, Pa in 1912. I don't know if there is a connection. However I would be interested to persue the possibility if you are interested.

I am a Pole at heart, from Silesia, having come over as a young child to the American Midwest with my parents. I married an American man who was and still is my best friend, after I completed college in English, although I want to go back for Accounting possibly, or to get my Masters. I am currently a SAHM to two beautiful girls. I breastfeed, baby wear, use cloth diapers, speak Polish, research Polish history and culture for my own interest, do freelance writing and photography, cook a lot, travel to Poland every other year, and hope that one day my family and I can move back to Poland. We all love America a lot, we just want to also live in Poland as well. I started a blog about all of it, hoping to support and promote Polonia (Polish community in US) in my endeavors as well, if possible... polishmamaontheprairie.blogspot.com/

Dear Polpolishmama May I offer to you a very warm welcome on board the good ship Polish Culture Forum This was very good of you and with much courtesy I must say with your introduction of your self to the forum membership {Of which you are now of}. Please do forgive me with appearance of rudeness, I am unsure of what meaning is: SAHM, or your preference of user name. Time will sort this out as usually is the case. In short time, I am confident you will become quite familiar with others and variety of conversations that will abound as normal. As a person, I am North German by nationality and currently working and living in Mexico, if perhaps an oddity should arise, then perhaps we may bring blame upon that nook of the cranny.. I think perhaps you will find much in common with Forum Host: Jaga, for she is from Silesia as well. Actually whilst thinking, the forum is very well represented by both Americans of polish families and Europeans of Nederland and Russian Federation as well. I think you have found your location here With Much Respect Karl

Hi Polishmama,
welcome to the forum. I saw your blog and it is very professionally done. You have lots of information about Polish culture there! How did you find our website and the forum? I used to spend lots of time to create my website but now when I have about 450 articles I slowed down. It takes a lot of committment to keep such an active website. You did a great job!

Thank you, Jaga! Thanks for the warm welcome and the compliment about my blog. I just started it recently, so we will see how it goes. I'm hoping it becomes something positive in Polonia. I found your site just by simply searching "Polish forums". Your site is amazing! Really inspiring! I hope to eventually be able to do the same, have so many interesting articles to share.
I am going to do a post about the polish online community soon and hope that you would not mind my listing your site as being a resource?
Dzienkujem!

Thank you also, Karl, for the warm welcome...
For clarification, SAHM is a Stay At Home Mommy. Usually, it's fellow SAHM's who understand what it means, lol. My user name I created was meant to be easier for me to recall in comparison to my blog, I know, rather redundant, a polish forum name being polpolishmama, but I needed simplistic!
I am really interested in seeing further the demographics of this site. So far, it has seemed very diverse and interesting!
