Guys,
thanks for your concerns. I am better than yesterday. In some sense I even feel better than before the accident happen because I can at least stretch my leg completely without warming up. But I still walk like a grandma and I am not planning any real exercise until I will have a visit with orthopedist.

Ms. Jaga:
Just happened to stumble upon this: very sorry to hear about your accident, hope it was not too serious.
This is certainly a bad time of year for something like this to happen.
I extend to you heartfelt wishes for a full and speedy recovery, hopefully in time for you to completely enjoy the Holidays.

Hello guys,
thanks for good wishes. I had a doctor visit yesterday. There is no bone broken, but the doctors would like to do a surgery to fix my cartilage. I am not sure that I am ready for it. The doctor says that the arthroscopic procedure is not that complex but I worry that if they would do it once I may have problems forever with my knee. Besides, the procedure is not very cheap also.
Did any of you have any experience with arthroscopy procedures? Thepossible problem in my case is called "meniscus cartilage tear" but the doctor first want to check it by MRI.

Jaga, I too took a nasty fall years ago and had torn cartilidge in my left knee. I put up with the pain and having my knee go out from under me for 13 years until I had the arthroscopy surgury. You should do it now if the MRI shows a tear. At the time I was injured this was not an option, at least around here. The procedure is rather simple, compared to total knee replacment. You will only have 2 small incisions on either side of the kneecap. In my case the torn cartalidge was cut away (laser) and the arthritis that had built up over the 13 years was scraped away. Keep your feet up, walk on crutches a few days and soon you won't even know you were hurt! Mary

Mary,
thanks for your input. How do you feel now? Can you walk well? Do you also have arthritis? I had an X-ray yesterday and it seems that I do not have arthritis yet, happily. Another friend of mine also said that this surgery is not very complex and can help/

Jaga, Don't know how old you are or your fitness level but those factors are important in your decision to have the surgery. I've had arthroscopic knee surgery and did all the PT after and forget about it. You have to be in very good shape and work the rehab program "religiously", which should be easy for you. Sorry, Jaga, but I couldn't resist. The downside of this surgery is that you will develop degenerative changes in the knee sooner rather then later. I wish you the best

Another friend of mine also said that this surgery is not very complex and can help/ I feel good for the most part. The knee doesn't go out anymore. I do have arthritis in both, as I injured both, but the left was the worst. The bad weather is the worst for arthritis, and I can tell 12-24 hrs before a front moves in because as the barometer drops the pain moves in. The only time I have trouble walking is long periods on cement or if I have been riding in a car for quite a while. But then with movement my mobility comes back. Thats one of the keys to arthritis...keep moving, if not, you won't be able to. Jaga, by being young and getting surgery if needed now, you will probably escape all the nasty things that I have. Let us know what the MRI shows and if you will need surgery. I pray all will be well. Mary

Jaga,
My daughter had the surgery, my wifes twin had the surgery and now my wife is to have the surgery.
It's about a 4 to 6 week recovery.
Good luck.

Jaga did you see these links I sent you earlier to another post.
My sister had arthroscopy done to her knee awhile back but she recovered quite quickly. It is a simple procedure and if you need it I would suggest you think about it. I doubt a total knee is advisable at your age. Now they are talking about a partial knee replacement which is not as evasive and simpler.
Jaga if you have health insurance then it is covered 100% at least here in Rochester they do. I know all insurance are different. We have some of the best insurances although they are rising in costs and I hear again the rates are going up the first of the year. Mine just jumeped 60.00 more if the figures they sent me are correct. I think that is a bit much of a jump. Yet one cannot afford to be without.
