Today the news stations were talking about the strange jobs which presidential candidates had in their past.
Did you have any interesting jobs in your past which you would like to share with us?
I was working in a cigarette factory during my students practices. I was also working illegally in the German motel once, and couple of more...
what about you?

I was working in a cigarette factory during my students practices. I was also working illegally in the German motel once, and couple of more... what about you? I worked in a lumber mill, actually what they call a dimension mill for about 4 years, when I became a single mother and needed a good job. It was hard physical work, but I was in better shape then than in my teen years. I started as a chop saw operator and then ran the computer controled gang rip saw. I then hurt my knees and took a position in customer service. This allowed me to do some traveling as part of the sales staff and did some trade shows. The best one I did was in Dallas Texas. I wouldn't want to live there but enjoyed the 6 days I was there. I then started working part time as a sales person selling aerial photographs for a company out of Ohio. This was door to door sales, cold calls. I was making more money and having more fun than with the Lumber Co. so I went Full time. I ended up a state manager, but the selling was far more fun! The down side was that I was missing out on a lot of my kids activities due to working long hours. I had to make a change.... Since then I had gotten my real estate licence and several licences in insurance. Worked at that for quite a few years until starting my own business. Mary

;D Not really "strange". When I was in high school I cut and laid sod during the summer. This was hot, dirty and heavy work but the pay was great for that time. We would cut out the old sod from around a house, dispose of it and then go out to a sod farm and cut the new sod and take it to the house and lay it. The sod we put in was "Merian Blue" and was very expensive. I think that the people who lived in the house paid as much for their lawn as the home itself. ;D ;D

When I was in my early teens we worked the broad leaf tobacco farms of central Connecticut during the summer. Constantly working under 4 foot netting makes you want to stand straight.
During high school I worked for a dairy farm and delivered milk in the morning prior to school. Started at 3:AM and went to school at 8:30.

When I was 13 in the summer I went bean picking with my girlfriend. Of course it was mostly to go flirt with the guys. I came home with a tan, earned enough money to buy an outfit for going back to school, but mostly we had fun...it was not for serious money. I still remember as we drove by in the bus that use to pick us up as we drove int he neighborhoods the kids shouting "Hey you bean pickers" and us shouting back...."yeah we pick um and you eat um" LOL...good old days.

I am now and have been for over twenty years, a Private Investigator. I own my firm, and this lets me pick the work I take, and the amount I take, and where I work, and it pays very well. I pick to only work a few days a week, so I can travel whenever I want. This is the best job I have ever had, and plan to work at it, until I am unable to.

My list:
- Breaking down walls in gardens as a job as teenager, and replacing heavy things. - Dishwasher in café-restaurants (a combination of pub and restaurants), working in kitchens, being a barkeeper for a while. - laying floors of linoleum! - working in a factory for a while with vegetables in tin. - working in a distribution centre. - working cleaning schools in the early morning (6.00 - 8.00) - working in an Audio company traveling and building sets in various cities and towns (the toughest job I had, felt like being a roady for the Rolling Stones). - Moving people's stuf from one house to the other. This were all kind of student and post-student jobs I did before, during and after my studies, as teenager and in my twenties.
Later in the second half of the ninetees I had all kind of free lance jobs, like supposting in an art exhibition place, organising art projects, being active as a political party activist (Dutch Labour party), my own studio (1995-1999), photography jobs, giving paint seminars for companies, and finaly from 1999 until december 2005 being a Desk Top Publisher in a Health Care groups Communication (Public relations) department in a hospital. In 2006 I worked for half a year for a printing firm. Since october 2006 I am a radio journalist and participant in a political foundation.
In my spare time I am stil interested in art and culture and so in programming our radio programm I invite a lot of artists, art organisations, stand up comedians and musicians.
I like radio and hope to become a National radio host in the future.

In college I sold hot dogs at Knotts Berry Farm and I was on the Knotts events set-up crew as well. One of the groups we set up for was the Rolling Stones.

In Poland I have always been a teacher, only locations and students changed, from 5 to 70 year-olds, from kindergartens to universities, big cities and villages, state and private, day and evening courses.
But in 1990-91, at my third year, when I was 22, I worked in NY.
First I worked as a waiter at a catering restaurant in Greenpoint, Brooklyn - Polonaise Restaurant. I left because I didn`t like the way that other workers swore.
Next another restaurant, somewhere in south Brooklyn, exclusive one, with wages 15$ per hour, it meant really a lot then. I left because the manager and other waiters were gay and my preferences weren`t sort of tolerated.
Also a few days in a Polish coffee shop somewhere near Wall Street but I was fired. hahahaha Again, problems with attitude, I wasn`t respectful enough.
Next, two months as a foreman at a construction and roof repair company - Everest. It was a real school of life, we worked on tall buildings in central Manhattan, I still remember climbing down a ladder which was hanging from the roof onto the scaffold. The abyssmal view of a distant street below was breathtaking. I was made redundant.
About two months in a demolition company - we pulled down an obsolete subway station in Brooklyn or an office building in Manhattan. When winter came, I got a golden handshake but without a watch.
The last and longest was with M&D Fire Door. I was a locksmith in this Jewish shop..
After a year, I came back to Poland with 11 thousand dollars and bought my first flat which had always been my dream.

Charles,
when my mother was sick in the hospital in late 90-es. She made friends with young people from Germany who worked in Polish hospitals as a part of their non-military service. Since she spoke German very well, she was helpful to them and they were helpful to her!
Pieter, interesting jobs.
Now I realized that just like Pawian, I had more varied jobs outside of Poland. I was working during the grape season in France. This was actually a legal job. I was treated like a family member in Provance. I was given every day a wonderful French lunch with water or wine, so I was a bit drunk later on during afternoon work.
