John,
Your right there are a lot of systems in moth balls at this time. Most probably still are functional

Charles. I read the article in the link you sent, very informative. I also read an article in Astronomy magazine about double and twin asteroids. There was even a piece about an asteroid, the size of Manhattin and having it's own moon. Can you imagine one of those slamming into us? (velocity and mass) what a mixture for disaster.

Hi Bob, yes, kind of scary is it not? Boy, just think if one of those big ones were to hit the earth, it would be all over for us. First the dinosaurs, then us....
I would rather go out kicking and screaming then just one big bang.. At least kicking and screaming I would have the chance for a few parting remarks.

Ah, Missile defense, a system that doesn't work against a threat that doesn't exist and transfers much of un-taxed (borrowed) money from the US to the military-industrialists. Kai It doesn`t mean that the threat won`t exist forever. One day an anti-missile shield might prove very useful. Terrorists or rouge states can resort to various way of hurting their alleged enemies. Moreover, it is not a mass destruction weapon which obliterates thousands/millions of people at a time, like nukes. The only problem with it is that it is expensive. But the Appollo Programe was costly too. Nevertheless, it gave effects. As much as nukes have been criticised, they saved a lot of American blood in the Pacific War. That is an undeniable fact. Why can`t a new programme be developed? There are many maniacs in the world. We need some protection.

The Earth has Bruce Willis and his wunder team. They are going to smash all asteroids into pieces!!! Didn`t you guys watch Armaggedon?

Not only do we have Bruce Willis, we have the SG1 team with Samantha Carter, and she will take care of that asteroid when/if Bruce chickens out!

Sure, we need protection, but how much should we pay? I think the anti-missile is too expensive. If I were a terrorist or rogue nation I would load a nuke on a tramp steamer and head into San Francisco bay. That is far cheaper and easier. Try to protect from that. Or in a last resort build a dirty bomb from scrap inside the USS and have at it. With easy methods like that, why mess with missiles?
It is a created threat and a corporate welfare program. We could use the money much better elsewhere. Remember a few years ago when Boeing reported record profits despite record losses in commercial aricraft? That was your tax dollar at work. Boeing was "Prime" contractor for construction of the missile sites and is still a big time operations contractor for they system.

Pawian,
Oops, forgot about Bruce Willis. The earth is safe!!! My wife enjoys watching the poker channel, Which means for me, no TV, and back to my little office occupying the north end of our bedroom and to my computer...
I like Bruce Willis and Nicolas Cage, they are all that I wish I was, including their money.....
