In 1977 I lost my Polish grandfather (Djadek), Jozef Kotowicz when he was killed in an accident with a drunken driver in Pozñan. He was run over at an pedestrian crossing. The drunken driver was taken his drivers liscence and was sentenced life long in prison. It was a great shock to my grandmother, mother and my aunt in Chicago. Pieter, I am sorry to hear of this tragedy in your family. It is heartbreaking when an innocent person going about his business is killed. The only accident I have ever had was when I stopped for a pedestrian in a crosswalk (it is the law here that drivers have to stop), and the car behind me did not stop, but hit my car very hard. The pedestrian was not hurt, but my car was totaled and I was stranded. The other person drove away with no harm done. Even worse, another time I stopped for a student near a school, but coming in the opposite direction was a police car, and the policemen did not stop and nearly hit the student.
