Isn't it strange how the 'neo-cons' on this forum and in the nation seem to be quite quiet on ideas for Iraq? (I say "neo-cons" to separate them from true conservatives who do not include wildly liberal spending and debt in their political portfolio). This is when we need ideas. One NY Times columnist likened Iraq progress to "bottom of the third" - baseballs end of the third inning - of a 9 inning game! So we have a long way to go. I am reading Barbara Tuchman's "March of Folly" (she was a highly respected American historian) and it seems we were in the same situation in Vietnam, only there we chose to fight for a non-viable government. In Iraq we have created the non-viable government and we have to stick around until? Good luck to us all. Invest your sons and daughters! Bush & Cheney and Rumsfeld avoided war; Bush's daughters are also avoiding this war. It seems to run in families. Kai

Kai, We can only hope that when we cast the ballot in November, that a change in US administration will get us out of a war debacle. The villians are not the middle east Arab people, but their leaders and ours. Oil and it's profits is the bottom line. I am not niave about this, nor are you. Islamic radicals have converted followers to death by suicide as a path to heaven. We have our disturbed citizens with an agenda, some who believe their actoins may help to take down the country or whatever.

We might have to re-define "finish the war" if we want quick not to mean two generations... ""The Anbaris . . . have seen the brutal way in which al-Qaeda operated. They don't want a return to that. In fact, they have what's known as blood feuds with al-Qaeda, meaning it takes about six generations to eliminate that type of strife," he said." or we should get ready for six generations of war if we are unwilling to define our end goal! the full article www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/12/10/AR2007121001648.html
