Oh my. One can only wonder what that region might have been like today.....had MacArthur held North Korea back then. He should have been president. President Franklin D Roosevelt, General Douglas MacArthur and Prime Minister Winston Spencer-Churchill shared common great great grandparents. Their three great grandmothers being sisters.

J.J.
How so wonderful, this presentation of the Roman manner of legions in practice. I realize of some many destructive remarks against Rome in past I have espoused. But, it is to be in their honour for their gifts to us as one of their foremost enemies.
For they brought to us: Our basis for our law, the gift knowledge of government/public administration/the skill of discipline/military administration and tactics from the famed roman legions to Napoleonic tactics of central military command.
Their calender, numeral system, later exchanged for the Arabic system of numbers. Then of course, their cultural gifts in art and writing. So, so much of which we had not.
To hate of their control of our lands, no! But to this, to honour them for their skill and bravery. For an enemy to fight well into defeat or victory, is an enemy of well deserved stature and deserving of much honour.
And much, much, more then I am qualified to say.
Karl

1939 - Invasion of Poland precipitated World War II. It was carried out by Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union, and a small Slovak contingent. Western powers allied with Poland did little to help. The war lasted 6 years and took a toll of around 70 million deaths.
