HUMANITY AT TURNING POINT: AN INTERVIEW ABOUT SYRIA WITH ZLATKO DIZDAREVIC EDITOR, REPORTER, AND DIPLOMAT FROM SARAJEVO
Date: Monday, 2-Sep-2013 08:04:55
Humanity is at a turning point
Dizdarevic: This is the end of an era on the planet
Bashar al-Asad is not flowers. He is a dictator. But what about those of us who gravitate toward the western media united against Syria's legitimate government, all we know about the repression carried out over his people? While the strongest military force preparing to attack Syria, and while talking about the global changes that will lead, we talked with one of the most qualified people in the Balkans to the Middle East issues - Zlatko Dizdarevic.
Thirty years Zlatko Dizdarevic engaged in the Middle East. Of these ten years he lived and lived in the Middle East as a journalist and diplomat. He points out that the information that is derived from his knowledge of recovered during these decades of active engagement in this area. He has reported from Egypt, Lebanon, Israel, Algeria, Libya, Tunisia, Iraq and Syria, and in time the "Arab Spring" and served as the Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Jordan, Amman, with accreditation in Syria, Iraq and Lebanon. This was a place named yet 2008th year. During the "Arab Spring" more time was in Syria, and the last time he visited Damascus two and a half months. For him, the question of the relationship to Syria, not its very future, the question of humanity, and explains why.
I do not think that David Cameron's reluctance or opposition to Arab League intervention to prevent the Americans, French and Turkey to go further, though, for him, quite certain that in a short prepared to postpone surgery and urge all others to some more thinking somewhat cooler head.
"I saw with my own eyes, compared with what I know and what I read and follow, and it added to that which I have dealt with the last 30 years. I have no doubt about who are the people who are now one-sided and uncritical called rebels. They and are not related to the objectives chosen as justification for attacks on Assad, "is resolute.
According to data recently released by the UN, the Syrian crisis is so far the worst of the genocide in Rwanda in 1994. year.
This is not true. This story is about 100,000 dead is "black and white". First, based on the beginning of the war on Syrian opposition sources, primarily those from abroad, who generally know about the events in Syria, and before they occur. When he started with the counting, I was in Amman and every day is arbitrarily adding another thousand, two, three, and led to the figure of 100,000. It is flat to those claims about 300,000 victims in Bosnia and Herzegovina and with no intention to call into question, and one lost life, when he went into determining the number of deaths based on scientific methods and data set so far to reach the number of about 100,000.
Structure victims
And like all other media-related data for Syria, and these figures are taken for granted, so that compares with Rwanda. In doing so, but "implied" and take that to 100,000 civilians who were killed by Assad, and does not take into account that there is regular and 30,000 Syrian troops, as well as tens of thousands of civilians have been killed so targeted. "Liberators and fighters for human rights." In international politics today is more than what is normal and meaningful as a definite fact handled data that have not been tested, or are communicated unilaterally, or the result of an absolute propaganda intentions.
Talking ongoing conflict in Syria and kept repeating like a parrot "100,000 100,000" is different from the immersion that figure means, what is true, why is so much etc. If they do this, it would be seen that the number of very suspicious, nothing for now proven and marketed by the so-called. opposition leaders who sit in London and Paris and call themselves activists, and international mechanisms of propaganda they have accepted, or directly created, because they correspond. Should wait for some kind of decent historical distance to get to the data as much casualties and - most importantly - who are the victims, that the structure of these victims, in what circumstances people were killed. So, who they were and who killed them. But despite all this, it is certain that among them there are innocent and their destiny nothing "deserving".
What do you know about the conflicting forces? Who are the people who rebelled against Assads regime?
They are the cutting edge of all that is worst in Syria - the extremists, the mujahedin, groups and organizations Mafia, fanatics who ultimately have no idea where they were, and they came from more than one hundred countries around the world. Domestic opposition forces, including the military, are now quite minor to them. And they generally subordinate. Huge is a joke to believe that these are people who are fighting for a democratic Syria, human rights, against the totalitarian Assads regime.
Dark, darker, burning and backward
They are fanatics who aim to have their own plans and desires, and they are reduced to create their dreamed countries, various Caliphate, emirates and sheikdom. Already working on it formally, brutally imposing their views on religion, life and the world, which for a century or two darker, burning and bacward compared to many extreme regimes. Assad, in fact, not interested. He only obstacle to the dream of many recruited by the world, and Syria now seen as a promised land where you can realize your dreams.
Spies repeated the old, bitter mistakes
Why the West has chosen them as a striking force for the realization of their interests and goals, it is a completely different story. I'm also fascinated by how the intelligence services of the great powers again make mistakes - if any error, not a project. Hired them, and seemed to believe that they are going tomorrow to get in line, arms and back again to go to grow parsley and carrots or whatever else they have already been working in the villages from which they came? How they can not think of a repeat scenario of Afghanistan, where the Americans were on the same principle created the Taliban and al-Qaeda?
Is not that one of the main diplomatic weapon of the West during the intervention in Afghanistan was just a struggle for secularism, especially the rights of women?
Clear. So today Fill in the foreground noble objectives, and fight the battle for quite other interests. And today, because of the public dealing with something that is just a consequence. Syria is in a way, unfortunately, collateral story. It will happen tomorrow elsewhere - happened already in Libya, and Tunisia, and Egypt. Crawl head in the sand with questions about what it is about. You know, when the Western policy debate on terrorism, always be sure to ask three questions - who, where, and how, and the fourth question - why - never sets. Such is the situation here.
Where the forces 'Arab Spring'?
The whole story started on a wave of something that is very romantic name even today "Arab Spring." But ask a very simple question: where are today and whether there are the forces of educated, young and hungry for freedom that began in the "spring" of Egypt, Syria, Tunisia to other countries? They simply deleted from the map of events, and the revolution was stolen from the most retrograde forces supported imperialists and neocolonialism. Why? And with them is much easier to manipulate than a serious societies where there are middle class and educated.
True, in these countries are coming bad news. In Tunisia appeared hit list with opposition members that executed two people, first leftist Chokri Belaid and opposition leader Mohamed Brahmi.
Quite expectedly. It happened with the Muslim Brotherhood and the coming to power in Egypt. This is a recipe that is trying to implement in Syria. I have no doubt that there was one emotional and organizational inarticulate movement based on aspirations to advance the Middle East political and any other humiliation. There is individual and collective frustration is more significant in political terms than people in the West ever imagine. Those people who run "Arab Spring" now nowhere.
West stole the revolution
Not a single goal that stood out was not realized, simply because the West with their goals, mechanisms, intelligence, Middle Eastern partners and oligarchies wiped the revolution and turned in this direction. With Syria were wrong, they thought that things would be ready in two months. But she was kidnapped for two very important reasons, of which the one no one wants to talk. First, Syria, regardless of internal structure, was, and once Iraq and Egypt in particular, serious and organized state. There is also such an army, which holds up to this day, and whose generals are not trained in the American West Point.
Why Syria simply did not fall
Syria had a social component that other Arab states did not have - free education, health care, etc. She is, most importantly, the middle class, mainly trade, without which we can not even talk about the initial processes of democratization, although Syria is not democratic by European standards. But do not tell me about these standards while cooperating with Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain and the Emirates. While the country to occupy an entire people and their legitimate territory consider "the most democratic in the Middle East." Syria had no debt to the World Bank or the IMF, which is also "unacceptable" for the country there!
But another reason why Syria did not fall, in which I deeply believe, because I know what I'm saying, this is what in Syria today in elections to the highest democratic standards Asad got 70 percent of the vote. Simply because the alternative is that the West offered with murderers and fanatics hundred times worse, whatever Asad was totalitarians. It will tell you every free man in Syria. But will the media of it have the task to make a monster whose death just have to wish for.
Internet - a toy that plays our minds
We should not forget that the essential difference between keeping the policy and the preparation of such operations today and 20 years ago. The difference is the capital of the Internet and the possibilities of manipulation of communications, but also the human mind in general. Controlled electronic media today can shape public opinion much faster and more efficient than 20 years ago.
Appears team of five people in a two bedroom flat in London, who call themselves the Observatory for Human Rights in Syria, or simply Syrian activists and paid by British or other intelligence agencies, and those from morning to evening shower the world of information that they want and that of them ordered. I'm not talking like a man who is emotionally or politically committed, but I'm just a half life of a journalist, a correspondent from the Middle East, I thought as a journalist, communicating with people and then went to diplomacy and the Middle East. A lot of things I saw, and then the other. I believe I can coherently add and subtract everything that I said 30 years have seen, experienced and learned.
Forcing failure stories to succeed
Syria has until this moment, to interventions that will, unfortunately, most likely, in my opinion was simply unsuccessful stories in appetite and cosmopolitan corporate plans, interest in the operation of the system fragmentation Middle East geopolitical and energy appetite, to make it easier, faster, and by international standards occurred resources. Absolutely ridiculous it would be in this examination room forget that the Middle East is still two-thirds of the world's classic and so far the cheapest energy. A space is one of the poorest with the highest percentage of unemployed young people without prospects.
The public is strongly shook the recent chemical attack on the suburbs of Damascus. Russian authorities say they have evidence that the pre-prepared (re) action of placing Assad. Furthermore, the investigator Carla del Ponte said there were "strong, specific doubts, but still no indisputable evidence 'that the rebels carried out a chemical attack in April, and that there is no evidence that the Syrian army used chemical weapons. How can trust Russia in these situations and how, according to your information, the truth in all this?
I do not think in terms of what they say the Russians, as the Americans, the British or the French, because the last of what the man has to catch to stay a normal elementary logic associated with the experience and what was seen with my own eyes. There is not a single rational and meaningful reason or explanation, to find the exact statement that he did Asad. Equally so, the Americans, the British and the rest of the family are quite identical story with Iraq and spent najbenevolentniju intention that they be believed on the world stage. Thing happens at the time when preparations for an international conference on the Middle East, that is, like any other, held by parties to the conflict to try to pre-ground to provide a better negotiating position, which better military situation.
Advantage Assads forces ahead of conference
As an underdog you can not impose conditions, the minimum logic. While the United States and Russia negotiated the conference, the military situation on the ground was relatively balanced. Only 15, 20 days later, Assad's army came to a serious advantage, because of a variety of military and strategic reasons, because of reduction of Turkish activities in the area because they had a real drama at home. We should not forget that Turkey is one of the basic pillars of Assads opponents in Syria. The advantage consisted of the fact that he fell Homs dangerous pressure on Aleppo, cleaned the area around Damascus and, most importantly, the Kurds have entered the war on the side of Assad, Hezbollah is also on his side. Began earning a media blockade in the world the essence of the events in Syria and the monstrous crimes that there are Western "human rights defenders".
'The rest is just a variant of'
At the same time, a delegation of Syrian opposition was in America, and then not really get what she was looking - a lot of sophisticated weapons and it instantly. However, the outcome in favor of Assad would mean total defeat of American and Western policies in the Middle East with the long-term consequences. It was becoming clear that the geo-strategic game that was conceived and played the past two and a half years before the crash. She stayed only one variant.
And that is?
To provoke what is provoked. Why would Assad was the one to do it. In essence, it would be completely forgive the expression, imbecilic. Practically speaking, at the moment when his commission UN "the window" in Damascus, at the Four Seasons, do it in the suburbs can only fool. And I do not need a lot of wisdom, and to see that everything they have done in the last two and a half years, a sign not only that they are not fools, on the contrary, they are very smart and clever. Furthermore, tactical, military, political and moral sense, it would not mean anything other than a suicide. It may sound extremely cynical and arrogant, but from the standpoint of what the ultimate goal (Assad) means killing 200 to 300 civilians that's just, chemical weapons?
Absolutely nothing. Not at all negligible, on the contrary, and expert analysis on chemical weapons. Several international experts for chemical weapons declared on this occasion these days the same thing: the way in which the majority of TV stations are shown stuff just offends the human mind and intelligence. Among other things, the nonsense that so poisoned with chemical weapons lies in the hands of doctors and civilians as they were brought to the hospital who do not have a mask or rubber gloves, or any other protection, and walking right to left. Anyone who knows anything about chemical weapons, knows that even grass does not grow at least 72 hours in a place where it occurred, let alone that it can be so unsafe to move around. To say nothing about a series of other technical details.
Does this mean that they deny the authenticity of recordings that have traveled the world?
Sure. And this in a professional, fashioned way, doing all his life, chemical and biological weapons. They do not enter into who fired it. After all, the key thing, perhaps even more significant than that which has been proven or not, it is nevertheless statement by British Foreign Minister, very similar to the statement of U.S. Secretary of State, that they no longer care what the commission will find there! Regardless of the findings, regardless of the UN Security Council and, they feel that they need to hit. I think this is essentially the most dangerous facts that occurred in the last century - the most important statement of a narrow group of people are the strongest country in the world, out of which three permanent members of the UN, who coolly say that for them, the UN, the international legal and political order, not means nothing.
For me this is the end of an era on the planet where there was some kind of similar-respecting any such international regulation, order and system. It is legitimizing force as the most important, and tomorrow the only valid mechanism in international relations. Neither the Second World War was not such manipulation - one is intoxicated by fascism forces stormed the world and all that was clear. The answer in the victory over fascism was the formation of the United Nations and the leading winners in this war today, consciously organized and targeted destroy the United Nations, to force achieved its imperial goals. So I see it today.
In this context, according to you, and explain Asada ready to release the UN investigators in Syria.
He could be ready the first day when she asked to come, because of what happened. What that five snipers killed those people on the territory of what is legitimate and sovereign, "his"? According to information from Syria, I know it was a great race with deadlines that committee comes soon, so they would not have complained that swept the evidence, but that they were not allowed to let go until you provide the court. However, the machinery did not function in this coordinate system. The territory run by opponents of the regular army and this is the territory of the members of the UN team for him sniper.
Pressure defense industry
Fortunately, no serious consequences. Still, by all this, someone apparently already made the decision to intervene. Pressure on Obama is huge, although the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in the beginning did not show too much enthusiasm for this operation because of lack of foundation law, (not) a mood of American public opinion to enter the war, due to the current war being fought in Afghanistan ... It is now quite certain that the unrelenting pressures of war hysteria in the tops of the military-industrial complex that is America apparently took him under her. You know, the president of the USA has never been, no matter what I thought about it, the indigenous, independent of all others in America stronger personality. Its limits on the open stage and special "behind the curtain" huge.
What do you consider motives for intervention?
Simply put, the U.S. has long since no longer functioning as a state but as a corporation. Corporate interests and imperial logic and mechanisms for this or that move have become far more powerful than any other motives and reasons. In this round of the policy. That's why we are in the situation that they are today, in front of huge interests in the Middle East, do not care for the UN. Sense of history, an ancient civilization and cultural values anyway miserably thin component in the current system of values.
It was communism and fell apart, then immediately came 11th September resurfaced terrorists, and that the matrix rides, except when it comes to "their terrorists." They needed fighters for human rights, as in Libya, and immediately after that, those same terrorists in Mali, then the fighters for democracy and freedom in Syria, and they must be protected in the name of democracy in Egypt, etc. This is the reason that, and before the events in Syria, should seriously think about where the planet is at this moment, what values to hold him, and that fall, who conducts international order and how, and whether there is a counterweight to those who think they are the only cops planet.
Russia is the loser in this story
This will be a big problem for Russia, China and others who fought the battle and supported Asada much as they could, but through it, and so far some valid principles. As much as I know the political reality of the moment, Russia will emerge as the loser who could not oppose Western interests, guilds and their weapons. For them, this will be the beginning of a new era of decline in influence in the Middle East and beyond.
Syrian story reminiscent of Libya, which was one of the richest and landscaped African tribal states. Even more astonishing was the action of 'liberation and democratization of Libya "in addition to all other African dictators.
No major parallels in Syria with Libya. Syria is ambiguous complex, historically significant, and its role is much more sensitive in the region where it is. Libya was the exclusive power of stories and the problem was enormous debt that multinationals have to Libya at a time when the question of extending the concession contract for the exploitation of oil. I saw in Amman by a prominent member of the royal family of decent proposal for the rehabilitation of the debt that Gaddafi offered to multinational companies before signing new contract
Suggested that part of the pay now to be part of the rescheduling, the piece is supposed to turn into a joint investment. If on this basis agreed on settling the debt, signed the new agreement on concessions for the exploitation of oil fields. However, immediately after this offer started the "Arab Spring" in Benghazi, and soon NATO bombed Libya. Gaddafi ended how it ended. The set is complete puppet, called. democratic government (?), which was brief, but enough to sign the aforementioned concession contracts for oil, which is considered one of the best in the world.
Ink on the concession contract was not even dry ...
Soon after, Libya is de facto split. Since it remains something that is nothing. It is a foray tribes, groups, various criminals, army looting oil, there is no central authority. And none of it today writes. This great democratization and won the struggle for human rights has led Libya to the Middle Ages and before. If "democracy" with al-Qaeda and al-Nusreta front line, on the wings of an airplane Americans, British, French and Turks flies to Syria for 15 days will not forget it. You will have not one single text on the one hand, once the oldest civilization in the world. I have no doubt that the "liberators" under the dome of the mosque Umayyads in Damascus dig the grave of John the Baptist and a little further because the tomb of Saladin was a Kurd, and the tomb of the biblical Abel, Cain's brother, and their remains scattered around, in the name of human rights and democracy.
What makes Syria different from Libya?
Considerably different. It is meant to maintain, and this is now changing and the political, and religious, and every other balance in the Middle East, because of the points that have already always, historically glowing. It leans stories about Lebanon, Israel, it borders with Iraq, Iran is in the background, on the north by Turkey, to the south Jordan. Get out of the Mediterranean. I know for sure that, in the event that the Syrian finished as it started, in Syria, in Jordan, in Egypt, mostly in Iraq, packed suitcases all the local indigenous people, Christians. They are ready for their biblical exodus as the worst fanatics, haters of all that is up to them, come to power. These are historical dramas that can not be reduced to a story on whether someone in the next two to three days to do this or that, once. My experience with the last trip there two months ago, among the middle class - artists, dealers and knowledgeable, and people in general - there is a strong emotion and bitter conviction that now, in fact, one un-truthfull civilization two hundred years crashes three largest and oldest civilization pushing them into the hands of the most extreme and bacward groups that exist for the sake of imperial interests: Iraq al-Qaeda, Egypt, Muslim Brotherhood, Syria and al-Nusreta and again al-Qaeda.
Tomorrow is the fate intended and Iran, the fourth an old Persian civilization. The conclusion is that if you have to crash and Babylon, the pyramids, and Byblos, and start from scratch, will collapse, only to find someone had pocketed billions of dollars more. I do not know, does anyone in America, and to engage in politics, what is the relation to the U.S. after the attacks that are coming from minute to minute, become so much a fundamental negative and hating the big question is how will this all affect the daily lives of Americans in this part of the world. And just when I think how much hope and enthusiasm in the Arab world challenged Barack Obama speech in Cairo, at the beginning of the term.
I wonder if it happens already in Syria, as it happened in the case of Libya and Gaddafi before his execution, the contacts between the 'rebels' and representatives of energy and construction multinationals, which usually come after the coup and earn well in ruins?
It's hard to remember any rational connection between those who wage war against Assad Army and organized international companies. The so-called. "Revolutionaries" are not related to each other, even fighting among themselves, the classic robber reasons. Are killed in the street because of a stolen car. Just at this moment can not believe that this is a structure that has an organizational chart and that is all that programming and planning related to some multinational companies. They are interested in how to pack a oil tanker when they win an oil field, and how they sneak here and there, make the resale.
The philosophy of most of them is much closer to the philosophy of pickpockets but great businessman. On the other hand, it would Syria, if it was thrown on the shoulders as a state, become El Dorado for many Western companies, it's clear. Neither Turkey nor France nor Britain were not for ideological reasons against Syria, and certainly not because of human rights. These are the old colonial appetites that are not completely silenced in none of the former colonial powers. Everyone has their own dreams, calculations and looking at how to put until you suck the last drop of blood occupied. It is not a peculiarity of Syria, as in all countries where it is pretending to protect human rights, and behind it a profit. It is not clear why this is so - the planet is only one generation per population increased by two and a half times the amount of energy and food, which are disappearing, and water is degraded.
Globally, this is just a stampede in winning the planetary resources are limited, and it is estimated that it has to work at any price, then by force. This force, cynical, but it is necessary, it must legalize the international arena. And what is that but the legalization of force when you have three leading countries in the UN Security Council, which said it would work by decision of the Council, and all the others are conflated ears? And that's why many countries are afraid of force I guess it depends on the force, ingratiating and think that it will become one of their good friends, why they are silent or run to first raise their hands to other people's interests, it is a matter of assessment of each of these countries domestic scene. But, believe it will be a waiver of its own position and the spine, of their own identity, not only political but human, historical, and thus achieve credibility domestically and internationally, is simply ridiculous.
How do you see the role of the EU in all this?
Its foreign policy think quite sad, cynical, claustrophobic and utterly selfish. Unfortunately, the world's becoming less relevant. Because disorientation, inability, even selfishness, it is, especially Britain and France, just glue the United States, although she expressed characteristics continuously and stubbornly insisting on a supposed independence and historical authenticity in relation to America. Unlike modern imperialism, the United States, many Europeans are still just an old, conservative, unfortunately, still powerful enough military neo-colonialsits.
The official Croatian policy supports EU policy on the issue of Syria, even when it threatens the interests of our company, I mean primarily the INA. They are pretty serious allegations and we supplied weapon rebels. How do you comment?
Yes, there are quite relevant domestic and foreign intelligence sources and evidence that Zagreb was awarded a significant role in the passage of weapons so. rebels in Syria, via Jordan. The evidence, if anything, have been reported through various permits flyover adjacent territories and have been published in regional media. It is clear that Croatia does not have much reason to admit it, even if it is naive to think that this can not be known. Well look at what is recognized and disclosed only the past few months, to be monitored, recorded and controlled. And that will be the time continued. Overflying aircraft with weapons as a toy in that system, "communication".
As Croatian policy in relation to the Middle East is concerned, it is still deeply internal matter of our neighbors. She was correct in my position to comment. After all, it is not significantly different from the politics of my country, but the Croatian now has a much greater commitment to states 'alliance' against Assada than Bosnia and Herzegovina. The limit of this policy, I hope, be dependent on two points - the respect of citizens' interests that represent and respect the elementary principles of international politics and order.
Waiver of the spine
I believe that, by definition, those who are into politics in their countries know what it means. And what it will mean in the same policy if it is from forgetting. I only know that in international politics, as well as at home, truly respect and esteem have long before those who held to his own principles, especially when they and universal, but when bent spine "bosses" at every opportunity, convinced that it will acquire their favor. In politics and disagreement, based on respect for the principles of their own, provides a greater respect and a long term appreciation rather than unquestioning devotion. These are, after all, the most common phenomena that the policy does not have to have connections.
