Here is a construction of the Polish sky-scraper built without horizontal pilars. It has cables. Where this house was bult and who lived there? And would you like to live there? This picture is pretty old since these types of buses do not run anymore.

This is a very early example of a building that uses a concept in common usage today. It has a rigid core to give it stiffness and an outer, flexible framework to support the walls and floor loadings. But the main structure is the core that is shown.

Ron, sorry I did not reply earlier. This house was constructed and later finished in town Wroclaw (Breslau). Some local celebrities (actors etc) lived there, since the city managers wanted to popularize the idea. You are right, that the core structure is sound. Probably this type of house could be built in Alaska also
