The "Official" kickoff of the fall season around our place arrives on "apple pickin" day, which is usually the first weekend in September. We make breaded pork cutlets, stewed tomato's and noodles, home made apple sauce (with some apples we just picked), and a "baked apple": my wife cores the apple through, then fills it with Maple Syrup, and bakes it. DELICIOUS!! That evening, it's apple pizza's (yes, it's just an apple tart, with cheese and canalized sugar and Cinnamon chunks instead of sweet glaze on pizza dough).
Whenever I think of a fall meal, that's the one that I will always recall.
How about the rest of you? Any favorite "Fall" dish?

Hi Piwo,
One of my favorites is 'Peach cobbler and cinamon ice cream'. that combo is great.
I see you are a aficionado of maple syrup. I generally don't see that except in the Northeast.
Apples in various cobblers, crisps and pies abound up here. We are right in the middle of it all.
Pumpkins are on sale everywhere. My sister in law got some pumpkin ice cream the other day. It was pretty good.
Also we enjpy cornbread at this time of year. I make mine with maple syrup and it is gobbled up before I can get any.
Have a beautiful fall season.

I find very few foodstuffs cannot be improved with the addition of Maple syrup, or a judicious application of cheese. ;D

Yes to falll. I would love the natural Maple surupe that is availale in your area, this for sure.....
But, I must be content with that which is available to my self. For my wife is absulutly American {Ohio} and as she learnt from her parants, and as a trained dietary cook, she will not diviate in any manner from what she knows.
But, what I know and remember of this time of year is my own: Glühwein, Spiced Saurkraut, Saurbraten, hot spiced Pork sausage, mit Swedisch Krispbrote und hot grau brote. And of course any Strudel!
You are so fortunant to be in your area!

We eat mushrooms, of course those that we pick ourselves in a forest. The smell of drying mushrooms is typical for the season. then all kinds of plum cakes, especially yeast cake with plums.
No pumpkin at all. I think I've never had pumpkin in my life, don't even consider is a foodstuff, rather a decorative stuff.

I live in the state of Misery (Missouri), and alas, we have not great stores of home made maple syrup. Some in the Ozark area, but it is Just John in New England where this national treasure is at its best. Not sure which maple's the syrup is derived, but boy; the curly maple sure makes wonderful gun stocks! zooba, Pumpkin is a foodstuff, and some wonderful pies, breads and beers are derived from it. Like many things, perhaps an acquired taste, but when done right, it is wonderful!

Piwo, here are the signs with which I recognize that we have autumn here in Poland. The very heavy and totally against the low choresterol diet soups that nobody liked in the spring and summer are back on the menu. These are for instance grochówka and ¿urek. The mushrooms are being eaten and dried and the smell is sweet and romantic (hard to believe, isn’t it) exactly the way Zooba said. Polish Babcia’s bake szarlotka plus already mentioned plum cake. Potatoe’s are once again tasty and are being eaten in the form of placki ziemniaczane or babka ziemniaczana. Or they are being baked in the fires on the fields - And this is exactly what we are going to do today with a group of our friends! Ah, the last but not least – cool wódka wyborowa saute tastes good again! So it is today that we have the official kickoff of the fall season

I have several of the trees in my back yard and right now they are very vibrant and colorful. One is a vibrant deep red and another is a bright red/orange. One of our favorite uses is on ice cream. Cook some maple syrup down until it is dark in color and heavy with flavor. Burning it a little won't hurt. Laddle it over some maple walnut or vanilla ice cream, top with fresh whipped cream and lo, you have a New Hampshire sunday. Of course pancakes are the mainstay of maple syrup. They just don't taste the same without it. A hot pancake with a dollop of sweet butter on top and swarming in maple syrup. Oh, its to die for and go to heaven.

Zoobz, When I was a teen we used to go picking mushrooms with my parents into the woods. I remember coming home with baskets of these and then my mom would can (preserve) them so that we can have them all winter.

Pumpkin Pie is my all time favorite (I am an autumn baby maybe that is why) Chili's, Stews, apple cider and donuts and apple pies, cakes or baked as above mentioned. I see the plums out (italian) now so this makes me think of making the plum platcek cake my cousin in Poland showed me how to make. and Fall brings to mind that soon we will be celebrating Thanksgiving Dinner with Turkey, cranberries, squashes, yams, Pumpkin pies, Not counting food I love to see the peaking of the leaves and their beautiful colors. Here is one from Seneca Park near zoo.

We're not having the best foliage season here, it seems.
