THE DATE: DECEMBER 7, 1941
The Place: The American naval base on Oahu, Hawaii
The Event: The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor
The Memoies: A mantle of choking black smoke blotting out the sun...flames spewing from the twisted wreckage of our armada - battleships, cruisers, destroyers, support ships. I no longer listen to what people say, I just watch what they do. Behavior never lies. Winston Churchill
“That men do not learn very much from the lessons of history is the most important of all the lessons that history has to teach.” Aldous Huxley
What a wonderful find! It is not just a relic, but remembrance of a past times of struggle and advances in aviation used as weapons of war.
I may be wrong, but the recovered aircraft appears to be a Douglas SBD Dauntless. If so, by all accounts, it served very well in service of American Navy. What I have read of this fine aircraft is it was for the time, a very high performance machine with very fine handling characteristics.
