In it's ancient form, carrots were purple, not orange. From as far back at the 10th Century, the crop grew purple in India, the Middle East and Europe, with its origins traced to Afghanistan. It was not until the 17th Century that they turned orange, when patriotic Dutch growers favored the colour - as used on the national flag.

No too much "orange"juice in the Polish vodka. Better to go with the grape juice in the vino. ;D

;D I would have thought not enough juice in the wodka, rather than too much to produce the effect it is obviously having. ;D Leslie

("I never saw a purple cow, I hope to never see one. But I can tell you this right now, I'd rather see than be one!") Nancy I know not how you come up with these, but it was so funny and precious! Charles

Well, I think the picture (wherever it came from) is absolutely beautiful, Nancy. I saw orange beets (beetroot) in the grocery store yesterday.

;D I would have thought not enough juice in the wodka, rather than too much to produce the effect it is obviously having. ;D Leslie How comes every time I have a little fun, people think I have been hitting a bottle? The idea of purple carrots was just compelling, so I had to Google .... found that picture somewhere ..... then I recalled the old nursery rhyme about the purple cow .... Then I realized there was not enough tonic water in my gin! ;D BTW, did you know there is a Carrot Museum in the UK? www.carrotmuseum.co.uk/history.html

Nancy What a wonderful carrot site you gave us the link for - it will take a week to work through and digest everything on it. Thank you. I don't think there is a physical 'Carrot Museum', purely this web site. But what a mind to unearth all this information and so on. Oh dear - using words like 'digest' and 'unearth'!!
To my imbibing recommendation - whether you drink gin or wodka, never add anything to it (OK ice to gin) but the wodka should be kept in the freezer. You are polluting the work of thousands of people in producing these fine, virgin spirits. They would turn in their vats if they knew you were even considering adding carrot juice to them or any other 'pansy' additive!!! Bottoms up!
Sir Leslie
